Sugar: Sweet Poison

Sugar
Sweet Poison

Sugar is a basic element found in starchy food. Sugar cane contains 14% trace elements, minerals and vitamins, plus chlorophyll. The sugar we purchase in the supermarket for personal consumption is heated up in chalk-milk, so that calcium and protein are extracted. It initially becomes an alkaloid, thus destroying all vitamin content. In the second phase, the sugar is mixed with acid chalk, carbonic gas, sulphur dioxide and finally, with natrium bicarbonate. This mixture is cooked and cooled off several times, and thereafter crystallized and centrifugalized.

This dead mass is then treated with strontium hydroxide. Subsequently, it arrives at the refinery where it is passed over chalk carbon acid to clean it. Dark coloring is removed by adding sulphuric acid and then it is filtered with bone charcoal. Finally, it is colored with Indathrenblue, or the highly toxic Ultramarine.

This product’s chemical composition is C12 H22 O11, which you can buy in shops as "pure cane" sugar, sugar cubes, candy, etc. All of its life-giving and protective forces have been destroyed, and this product called sugar has an atomic density of 98.4 to 99.5 %. Such density falls under the category of poison. This industrial sugar irritates the mucous membranes, tissues, glands, blood vessels and intestinal tracts of the persons who eat it. White sugar also paralyzes the intestinal peristaltic functions and leads to immune system failure. White sugar also destroys brain cells and elevates the internal temperature of the body.

Tooth tissue has a tissue pressure of 7 At. Industrial sugar increases this osmotic pressure to 34 At. Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in human beings, together with bones. We have found teeth that have been on the earth for 100,000 years and still intact despite heat and cold, rain, snow, bacteria, etc. However, white sugar is capable of destroying tooth enamel within hours, penetrating the structure of the tooth-tissue like a nail and breaking it down. What Nature could not do since the beginning of time, mankind has achieved in no time at all. He is the only being that destroys the nutrient value of his food before consumption.

Here follows an interesting study from Denmark, where death due to diabetes for 100,000 members of the population and the use of sugar consumption per year per person are displayed.
Year Deaths Sugar Intake
Per Person / Year
1880 1.8 13.5 kg.
1911 8.0 37.6 kg.
1934 19.1 51.3 kg.
1955 34.3 74.7 kg.
1975 78.6 81.8 kg.

In the USA, the population receives up to 25% of their calories from sugar. In the year 1870, diabetes was almost unknown. In 1880, the sugar and sweets intake were 18 kg; in 1927, 70 kg; in 1950, 101 kg per person/year. Nevertheless to date, the cancer hospitals and children´s hospitals feed patients with ´denatured´ food, conserves, white sugar, white flour, etc. trying their best to feed the cancer and other illnesses of their patients.

Health can only come when we take responsibility for our own body, mind, soul and the environment. Faith without action is dead, the same as food without life-force is dead.

The Relationship Between Sugar and Brain Power

It is common knowledge that sugar (meaning natural sugar) is the principal food for the brain. Now, what can we learn from sugar, as it is consumed on an everyday basis?

There is a saying that our so-called civilized population does not use its intelligence! How can we prove whether this is true or not? The German department of education has the statistics for their country. Between 1890 and 1940, they have observed a loss of intelligence of 10 %. This means a diminution of the general ability down to one sixth, a diminution of the talented to one-half. In contrast, the amount of mentally-slow persons has tripled. The mentally-retarded increased four times, and there are thirty times more half-idiots than during the time of the Renaissance. The loss of one’s intelligence is equivalent to a death sentence.

For our great-great grandparents, it must appear that today´s so-called intelligent man is rather a dull person. In these times, our genius is hardly ever challenged. Creative acts are performed by a minority with creative power. What originally made humans human was the creative force within.

We can see it in any political arena, how weak and uncertain the decisions are; or in science, how a repaired instrument just gets worse after it returns from the repair-shop. The problems have increased with the consumption of industrial sugar and white starch. The brain was originally stimulated and fed by natural fruit-sugars. This has given the brain its stability and structural thinking patterns.

Fruits coming mostly from mono-cultures, soaked in pesticides and environmental toxins, are far from being a good brain-food. The consumption of dead sugar is increasing astronomically. The brain collapses and acts crazy and unreasonable because of the influence of white sugar. This contributes also to family problems - including violence.

In the United States in 1970, there were 40 million people that sought medical help because of emotional disturbances. Half of the United States is suffering knowingly from one or other mental disturbances and the outbreak of violence. In large towns like London, there are 30 idiots for every 1000 citizens. We can observe that the performance in schools shrinks from year to year. Now there are already first-graders using the help of teachers at home. The German educational department mentions in 1978, that in Hamburg, of 2000 children of the age of six, 55% suffer from important emotional disturbances, 20% have anorexia, and another 20% have sleeping problems. Out of all foods, sugar is certainly the No 1 killer. Starch, which is certainly consumed in no less quantity than sugar in the civilized world, is another great contributor for our public mess and loss of intelligence.

Intelligence and feeling are very closely linked. It is not surprising that in our time there are so many people suffering from violent emotional pain. The brain is the commander of everything. When we destroy the brain, we basically destroy humanity, which depends upon brain-power at all times.

It is astonishing where you can find sugar already in today´s food. Even in fish conserves, you can find among the ingredients the presence of industrial sugar. Any other substance with the same atomic density is called poison and cannot be obtained without a medical prescription and then only a few grams of it. Poisons are sometimes prescribed in order to cure an illness. However, the purpose of Sugar is to destroy humanity, together with its dignity and creative power. It is one of the most sinister products ever made to be legally sold as food.

Was Christ Educated By Buddhists?

JESUS CHRIST TAUGHT BY BUDDHIST MISSIONARIES
Quote

Excerpt from the book "Great Saviors of the World" by Swami Abhedananda, Ramakrishna Vedanta Math

Ideas regarding a kingdom of peace and love were scattered in Northern palestine for at least two centuries before the Christian era by the Buddhist missionaries. It is indeed a well-known fact that the gospel of peace, good-will and love was preached in Syria and Palestine by Buddhist monks nearly two hundred year before Christ. Thier influence was felt most deeply by the Jewish sect called the Essenes, or the Therapeutae, to whch sect, as many schoars believe, Jesus himself belonged. it is interesting to note thesimilarities between the Essenes and the followers of Buddha. The Buddhists were also called Theraputta, a Pali form of the Sanskrit Sthiraputtra, meaning the son of Sthira, or Thera: one who is serene, enlightened, and undisturbed by th world. Thera was one of Buddha's names. These people had the power to heal disease.

Readers of the history of India are aware that in 249 B.C. Asoka the Great, the Buddist emperor, made Buddhism the state religion of India and sent missionaries to all parts of the world then known to him to preach the gospel of Buddha. He sent missionaries from Siberia to Ceylon, and from China to Egypt. These missionaries preached the doctrines of Buddhism, not by bloodshed and sword, but by scattering blessings, good-will and peace where they went. The edicts or stone inscriptions of Asoka were written during his lifetime. One of these edicts mentions five Greek kings of Syria, Ptolemaos of Egypt, Antigonus of Macedon, Magas of Cyrene, and Alexander of Epiros. The edict says that Asoka made treaties with these kings and sent Buddhist missionaries to their kingdoms to preach the gospel of Buddha. "Both here and in foreign countries" says Asoka, "everywhere the people follow the doctrine of the Beloved of the gods, wheresoever it reacheth", Mahaffy, the Christian historian says: 'The Buddhist missionaries preached in Syria two centuries before the teaching of Christ, (which has so much in common with the teaching of Buddha), and this was heard in northern Palestine."

The labours of these Buddhist monks were not fruitless in these places. They continued to preach through parables the highest ideals of religion from generation to generation. Their communites, bound to a life of celibacy, which was not a Jewich custom, increased from age to age as outsiders joined their ranks. Even the Alexandrian Neo-Platonist Philo, who was a contemporary of Christ, mentions in his writings once or twice the "Indian Gymnosophists", or Buddhists, and says that the Essenes numberd about four thousand at that time. The doctrines of the Essenes, their manner of living, and the vows of their communities show the results of the Buddhist missionary work during the two centuries immediately preceding the birth of Christ. Pliny says: "The Essenes live on the western shore of the Dead Sea. They are a hermit clan - one marvellous beyond all others in the world, without any women, without the joys of domestic life, without money, and the associates of the palm-trees." If we read Josephus we find how highly the Essenes of those days were respected.

One of the peculiar practices of the Essenes was the bath of purification, which was also a peculiarity of the Buddhist monks. The life led by John the Baptist was typical of that of a Buddhist monk. Exactly like a Buddhist, the Essene rose before sunrise and said his morning prayers with his face turned towards the east. When the day broke, he went to work. Agriculture, cattle-breeding, bee-keeping, and other peaceful trades were among his ordinary occupations. He remained at work until eleven o'clock; then he took a bath , put on white linen, and ate plain vegetable food. The Essenes abstained from meat and wine. They also wore leather aprons, as did some of the Buddhist monks. The Essene novice took solemn oath to honour God, to be just toward his fellow-men, to injure no one either of his own accord or by order of others, not to associate with the unrighteous, to assist the righteous, to be ever faithful to all, always to love truth, to keep his hands from theft and his soul from unholy gain. There were some who joined the order after having lived a married life.

Earnest Renan says: "The Essenes resembled the Gurus (spiritual masters) of Brahmanism." "In fact," he asks, "might there not in this be a remote of the mounis (holy saints of India)?" According to Renan, "Babylon had become for sometime a true focus of Buddhism. Boudasp (Bodhisattva, another name of Buddha) was reputed as a wise Chaldean and the founder of Sabaism, which means, as its etymology indicates, baptism." He also says: "We may believe, at all events that many of the eternal practices of John, of the Essenes, and of the jewish spiritual teachers of the time were derived from influences then existing but recently recieved from the far East" - meaning India. Thus we can understand that there was an indirect influence of the Buddhist monks upon the mind of jesus through the Essenes, and especially through John the Baptist.

Although jesus never pretended to have created the world, nor to govern it, yet his followers worshipped and loved him as the Messiah; and later on the writer of the Fourth Gospel identified him with the "Word," or Logos of Philo, about the latter part of the third century of the Christian era. According to the Synoptic Gospels, the idea of the advent of the end of the world and of the reign of justice and the kingdom of God grew so strong in the mind of Jesus that apparently it forced him to think that he - the Son and bosom friend of his Father - must be the executor of God's justice and goodness should be established. This thought gradually led him to believe that, as he was the Son of God, he should be the universal Reformer, and was born to establish the kingdom of God.

The fundamental principles of the religion of Jesus, however, were purity, charity, self denial, control of passions, renunciation, non-attachment to wealth and to earthly things, intense faith, forgiveness and love for enemies, and the realization of the unity of the soul with the 'Father in Heaven.' During the one year of his public life as a spiritual teacher, jesus taught his diciples these principles and showed them the way to practise them by his living example. But all these grand ethical and spiritual doctrines, upon which the religion of Jesus was founded, were practised for nearly three centuries before Christ by the Buddhist preachers in Babylon and Syria, and they were taught in India for ages before that. The same ideas were inculated by the Vedic sages, by the vedanta philosophers, and afterwards by the Avatars, or Incarnations of God, like Rama, Krishna (who lived about 1400 B.C.), Buddha (547 B.C.), Sankara, Chaitanya, and Nanka, and also by Ramakrishna of the nineteenth century. If we study the lives of these men, we find that, like Jesus, each one of them lived a pure, spotless and unselfish life of renunciation, always loving humanity and doing good to all.

Those who have read the doctrines of Buddha know that the ethical teachings of Jesus seem like repetitions of what Buddha taught. Those who have read the Bhagavad Gita, or 'the Song Celestial,' will remember that the fundamental principles of Krishna's teachings were purity of heart, self-denial, control of passions, renunciation, love towards enemies, forgiveness, and the realization of the unity of the soul with the Father. In short, the religion of Christ was taught before him by Buddha and Krishna in India. Like Jesus the Christ, Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gita: "I am the path. Follow me and worship one God. I existed before the world was created. I am the Lord of all." And again: "Giving up the formalities of religion, come unto me; follow me ; take refuge in me. I shall free thee from sins and give peace unto thee. Grieve not."

But although Jesus the Christ did not teach a new religion, still he came to fulfil and not to destroy. He gave a new life to the old truths, and by his wonderful personality impressed them upon the minds of his own people.

Gospel Of The Nazarenes

Gospel of the Nazirenes: Integrating Reincarnation and Christianity
Restoration of the Original Teaching?

Continuing discoveries this century are shedding ever greater light onto one of the most opaque and mysterious periods in history, illuminating the man and message and 1st century cultural impact of Jesus. Given the recent discoveries of the "Dead Sea Scrolls", the "Gnostic Gospels" of Nag Hammadi, and now, apparently, even the long-sought "Gospel of the Nazirenes", far more has been discovered about the earliest days of Christianity in this century than in all the years previous. And what is becoming more and more clear from these discoveries is that the original message of Christ differed sharply from the official doctrines later adopted by the church.

Recently an Aramaic manuscript entitled "The Gospel of the Nazirenes" was translated and published. Said to be an ancient scripture forgotten for centuries in a Tibetan monastery, this work seems, in virtually every respect, identical to a work by the same title that was known and widely quoted from in the first centuries of the church. Many of the most revered early church fathers, as well as a surprising number of scholars today, have boldly declared that the legendary "Gospel of the Nazirenes" was nothing less than the long-lost ORIGINAL Gospel which, legend holds, was collectively written by the actual 12 apostles in the period immediately after Christ's death, and upon which all three of the Biblical synoptic Gospels were based.

If this recently published work indeed IS that original lost scripture, it would be a magnificent treasure of unequaled value, possessing incomparable relevance for the whole of Christianity. The manuscript claims in no uncertain terms to be that same ancient work composed by the 12 apostles, and, in fact, it makes an intriguing and compelling case for being just that.

And it supports DivisionTheory, the scientific Life-After-Death theology found in the Gnostic Gospels of Nag Hammadi in the 1940's.

The Legend of the Lost Gospel
For nearly 2,000 years, all we objectively knew of Jesus came to us primarily through the four Biblical Gospels. But for all that time, a great and enduring pall has hung over those lofty works. In the fourth century, the authorities of Rome decided just which of the countless books on Jesus in circulation at that time would make up the present-day Bible, deciding once and for all, in effect, which works were to be judged as genuine and authoritative and which were not. This decision, unfortunately, carried the undeniable taint of politics - and possible political compromise - the Bishops making these decisions were doing so at the direct command of the Roman Emperor, and their future financial and social well-being was, everyone agrees, entirely under his control. It has been whispered ever since the fourth century that much of the true message of Jesus was edited out at that time, due to the oppressive and theologically-obtuse influence of Constantine.

Many Christian scriptures that failed to be admitted into the Bible were then outlawed, collected, and destroyed.

Prior to 325 AD, however, many of the early Church fathers had included in their writings mention of an earlier Gospel, upon which, they claimed in near-perfect unison, the synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke had ALL been based. Mentioned or quoted from by such well-known church fathers as Papias, Hegesippus, Iranaeas, Clement, Origen, Basil, Epiphanius, Eusebius, and St. Jerome, this document had gone variously by the title "Gospel of the Nazirenes" (The word "Nazirene" comes from a "Nazirite-Essene" sect, or a Nazirite sect of the Essene branch of Judaism), "Gospel of the Hebrews", "Gospel of the Ebionites", and "The Aramaic Gospel of Matthew".

For nearly 2,000 years, historians considered this work to have been irrevocably lost, but in 1870 a forgotten copy was said to have been discovered hidden away in a Tibetan monastery, and was quickly translated from the original Aramaic, published this time as "The Gospel of the Holy Twelve". This work was, however, translated quite clumsily into very dusty old-style King James English, and at the time the work was not widely noticed or read. But now a new translation has arrived, published in 1997, edited and restored by Alan Wauters and Rick Van Wyhe.

This document certainly seems to be the same gospel referred to by so many ancient commentators. Although that ancient original scripture had indeed been lost, a number of its passages are still known, having been preserved when various church fathers quoted them in their own writings. Virtually all those quoted passages are found again here in "Nazirenes" in their entirety (as are also virtually the entire contents of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke). Numerous historical references thus seem to confirm the authenticity of the 1870 manuscript, and many modern scholars since 1870 have concluded as well that this work is, in all likelihood, the original source of much of the material that eventually found its way into the Biblical Gospels. If so, the Biblical Gospels would then be mere edited versions of this earlier, and therefore more authoritative work, just as many have argued over the centuries.

The Stamp of Authenticity
Far more than the Biblical Gospels, this work has the feel of having been written by actual witnesses to the events it describes. The detail is often both more natural and more explicit, and a great many theological, social, and political issues come out making a great deal more sense.

Often during the reading of this work, one feels that one is simply reading the Bible, for many passages are, indeed, virtually identical to that found in the canon. The familiar old stories are told again, and either the working is identical, or, when expanded upon or alternate wording is used, the stories come out making rather more sense than before, clearing up many questions left hanging in the authorized version.

Never does it seem that the unfamiliar material is actually out- of-place, as if it had been pasted-in by editors after the fact. Rather, in virtually every instance the fresh material seems an integral component of the narrative, and, as one reflects anew upon the more familiar wording of the authorized Bible, the absence of this unfamiliar material seems now to stand out as a lacking:

"And Herod with his men of war set him at naught, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe and sent him again to Pilate.

And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends, for before they were at enmity between themselves." - Nazirenes 81:17

Nice detail. Its inclusion in the narrative doesn't seem necessary for any theological content or other long-term significance, but it is nonetheless precisely the sort of detail a group of 12 friends might see fit to include in their narrative.

Similar details occur throughout the text. In the authorized Bible, for example, at Jesus' death it merely reports that the "veil of the Temple was ripped" by a powerful earthquake.

But in what is seemingly the more original, and detail-rich work, "Nazirenes" elaborates convincingly:

"And behold there was great thunder and lightning, and the partition wall of the Holy place, from which hung the veil, fell down, and was rent in two, and the Earth did quake, and the rocks also were rent." - Nazirenes 82:26
Seemingly minor yet colorful and narratively enriching details like this run throughout this text, giving the compelling impression that this is indeed an original eyewitness narrative, not a bland, confused, or glossed-over retelling of a dusty tradition repeatedly handed down orally for 30 years of more before finally being committed to writing.

Traditional scriptural teachings maintain that the mighty works recorded in the New Testament went unwritten for some 30 years or more before being put down in writing, but this seems to make no sense. At least some of the apostles were, reportedly, quite literate and learned men, and it seems likely, even prior to encountering a text such as this, that an already close-knit group of 12 learned friends would have quickly pooled and compared their memories in an effort to compose a definitive version of their recollections of the man, teachings, and works of Jesus, before anything of import could be forgotten.

And this text, now available for all to read, constitutes evidence that such a collective testimony not only WAS composed (just as reason suggests it would have been), but successfully survived the centuries after all, even in spite of whatever political forces that might at one time have been aligned against it.

It seems very much as if the authorized Gospels in the present-day Bible were all various edited versions of this "Gospel of the Nazirenes".

Some material originating in "Nazirenes", it seems, even found its way into the Biblical books of Acts and Revelations.

In many ways, while reading it, the familiar age-old message of the Bible comes through as always; but then one is suddenly jolted upright, finding oneself reading startling passages that directly defend the very NON-Western tradition of reincarnation (along with equally unfamiliar tales of Jesus' studying various mysteries and wisdom traditions in India and Persia and Egypt, tales of His marriage and the subsequent death of His wife, and much more).

In many places, then, what is written in "Nazirenes" contrasts sharply with the familiar story and message in the authorized Bible. It teaches strict and uncompromising vegetarianism, describing how Jesus' anger at the Temple was not merely directed at the financial business going on there, but was specifically over the selling and slaughtering of sacrificial animals in the Temple, which was supposed to be a House of Prayer, but had been changed, he cried, into a slaughterhouse. The idea that Jesus might have felt outrage at seeing the cruel carnage of innocent creatures in the Holy Temple seems fully consistent with his character as we have collectively come to imagine Him, and this interesting variation of the "moneychangers" story in "Nazirenes" comes across as fully believable. In a word, it has the ring of truth to it.

"Nazirenes" claims that one of the biggest reasons Jesus was so adamantly condemned by the religious authorities of Israel was because he advocated an end to blood sacrifices at the Temple. To bring an end to these sacrifices, of course, would have completely undermined the financial livelihood of much of the Temple priesthood , and so they would have seen Jesus as embodying a personal threat of no little consequence. In effect, he went right for their wallets; an act more certain to elicit intense opposition from the Judaic priesthood could scarcely be imagined.

"Nazirenes" also claims, not that Jesus was the "Only Begotten Son", but, phrasing it quite differently, that he was the "First Begotten Son" of God. The small change in terminology entirely undermines the traditional church's position that Jesus was a Divine being who simply chose to become human; instead, this text now suggests, he was at least also, in some respects, a human who, through persistent effort and faithfulness to "The Law" (perhaps over many lifetimes), had become a Divine being, suggesting the very gnostic notion that anyone else might also attain the same accomplishment, which in turn reminds us all of some of His Biblical comments:

"I have overcome the world." - John 16: 33

"He who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do...." - John 14:12

In a most modern slant, "Nazirenes" directly advocates euthanasia, but only in cases of extreme suffering. Always and everywhere throughout the book, the image of Jesus is one utterly dedicated to gentleness and loving care for others. Many scenes involved Jesus rebuking someone for cruelly inflicting pain on others, whether people or animals.

Reincarnation Integrated into Christian Theology

I am delighted to report that this restored Gospel seems fully consistent with, and in many respects powerfully supports my own work, DivisionTheory, which maintains that the soul and spirit of ancient scripture are the unconscious and conscious of today's science, which split apart after death, each going on to an entirely separate afterlife experience. The unconscious soul, carrying one's memories and emotion, becomes trapped in a self-created heavenly or hellish dreamlike unconscious netherworld of its own creation, while the conscious spirit, carrying the intellect and free will, goes on to a new incarnation utterly oblivious to the fact that it had lived before.
My long-standing fear was that some early Christian text of this degree of apparent authenticity would eventually arise which would decisively EXCLUDE DivisionTheory from the teachings of Christ (in which case I would be forced to chuck the conclusions of 10 years of work, to which, I admit, I have more than a little ego attachment); but instead, such a work has now come to light which stands as even more powerful SUPPORT for concluding that DivisionTheory is indeed an accurate portrayal of those original teachings.

The Afterlife: Losing the Soul
Like DivisionTheory, "Nazirenes" specifically teaches that man is a triune being, composed of body, soul, and spirit (54:14), but also teaches that this triune nature can be violated, that it is, in fact, possible for one to lose one's soul at death (25:10). "Salvation", or "eternal life", was specifically described as "saving one's soul"; but this was contrasted with those who do not "fulfill the Law", and therefore would "lose" their soul at death. Losing their soul, however, did apparently not mean that one's whole being would become permanently trapped in some netherworld, nor did it mean ceasing to exist; on the contrary, even if the person "lost" his soul, HE WOULD STILL REINCARNATE, the text insists. "Losing the soul", then, meant something very different to the writers of this Gospel than that meaning currently assumed in Christian circles. Just as the only difference between reincarnation and eternal life would seem to be in the issue of saving or losing one's memories of one's past, the only difference between saving or losing one's soul would seem to be the difference between reincarnating as usual or acquiring "eternal life". In that the concept of reincarnation already incorporates the idea that death does not end one's existence, the "Nazirenes" concept of "eternal life" apparently means more than simply continuing to exist after one's physical death. It means, rather, that one's memories are retained, one's sense of self-identity is retained. And as modern science has taught us that memory is stored in the unconscious, this would require that the unconscious soul not be "lost", but rather be "saved".

The Afterlife: Eternal Life Vs. Reincarnation
"Nazirenes" teaches the doctrine of reincarnation as a certainty (69:2, many others), but also teaches that acquiring "eternal life" is only an OPTION. This "eternal life" is thus NOT merely the eternal life of reincarnating, but was thought to be something merely potentially possible for human beings to achieve, a possibility that should be sought, but by no means was this ‘eternal life" a guaranteed certainty. Reincarnation was a guaranteed certainty, but "eternal life" was not. Thus there existed, according to this teaching, some OTHER form of "eternal life" superior to merely reincarnating and forgetting one's past lives, some OTHER form of continual existence in which one's past efforts and hard-earned knowledge and wisdom and skills and loves and accomplishments would never be lost again, as is normally the case when reincarnating:

As in Adam, all are bound to cycles of rebirth, so in the Lord shall all be made eternal. Blessed are those who are made perfect .. for... their works do follow them." - Nazirenes 69:2
And sounding very much like DivisionTheory indeed, this eternal life, this "perfection", could only be attained by a particular integrative interaction of the unconscious soul and the conscious spirit:

"...every soul may be perfected by the ascent of the soul into the spirit and the descent of the spirit into the soul...." - Nazirenes 96:16
The Afterlife: Fulfilling "The Law" Within
In order to achieve this eternal life, "The Gospel of the Nazirenes" declares, "The Law" must be fully obeyed. In this respect this book shows us a very "Jewish" Jesus indeed, with His unequivocal focus on ‘The Law that must be obeyed'. But "The Law", to THIS Jesus, was not altogether that same Law written in the Hebrew Old Testament, but rather a universal Law pre- written into the inner being of Man. The true Law given by Moses, THIS Jesus claimed, had been altered and betrayed and adulterated by the priests of Persia during the Jewish people's captivity there. The true Law given by Moses was, this scripture maintains, the same ancient Law is always pre-written in the hearts of men - the "Law of Love and the unity of all life in the One-Family of the All-Parent" (24:4).

This work teaches that living according to that inner Law is the key to salvation, Eternal Life, the Kingdom of Heaven. It teaches that if one experiences hell after death, it is not because one was condemned by God or anyone else, but by being "Self"-condemned (18:1, 46:3). Whatever hellfires the evil dead suffer after death would be those very same fires they themselves created in their own unconscious souls prior to their deaths....

"Then he shall say to them on his left hand, "Depart from me evil souls into the eternal fires which you have prepared for yourselves." - Nazirenes 67:11

.. by betraying the Law, the sense of right and wrong, that was pre-written into their inner beings. Those who did NOT follow and obey the true "Law" would not receive this ‘eternal life". They WOULD, however, still continue to reincarnate.

The Afterlife: Reincarnation Vs. Resurrection

"The Gospel of the Nazirenes" teaches the Eastern doctrine of reincarnation right alongside the traditional Western doctrine of an eternal heaven and hell; just as in DivisionTheory, these two traditions are shown united in a single integral vision of Life After Death. And also like DivisionTheory, "Nazirenes" ALSO combines the Eastern doctrine of reincarnation with the Western doctrine of a coming Universal resurrection, in which all the world's dead would simultaneously rise to conscious life. But including, within the context of reincarnation, this idea of a coming "universal resurrection" at the end of time is a tricky proposition. How can all the world's dead rise at the same time into physical bodies when each person shares identities with his own other selves, his numerous past incarnations? Clearly, such an event would have to be, as DivisionTheory claims, a time when the memories of past lives and past selves would suddenly flood back into the conscious world, when the dead awaken within us all, within already-living bodies, as opposed to the spontaneously and miraculously reconstituted bodies expected by traditional Western theology:

"The Kingdom is within you. But the time approaches when that which is within shall be made manifest in the without, for the sake of the world." Nazirenes 91:3

Judgment Day: Resolving the Doctrinal Conflict Within Nazirenes
Sadly, "Nazirenes" does not clearly spell out how these two co-existing doctrines were successfully integrated in the minds of Jesus and the 12 apostles, but, outside of the DivisionTheory scenario of spontaneous past-life memory restoration, the Bible's prophecies of a coming Universal resurrection into physical bodies seem incompatible with the doctrine of reincarnation. Thus, it seems, only DivisionTheory resolves the doctrinal conflict that "Nazirenes" presents.

"The Gospel of the Nazirenes" also teaches that, even at Judgment Day, the evil souls of the world will, even then, still have one last chance to repent and turn and be saved (40:7, 46:23, 67:15), a conclusion which DivisionTheory also arrived at, but a teaching which does not seem to appear in the traditional Bible.

"Nazirenes" is in full agreement with both DivisionTheory and the Biblical Gospels on at least one point: "Nazirenes" entirely supports the doctrine of the existence of the devil.

As with DivisionTheory, "Nazirenes" Last Day vision describes a time in which all humanity will end up sharing possession and experience of a common conscious component, the same conscious and autonomous spirit ultimately dwelling in the psyches of each of us, looking out through the eyes of each of us, riding right alongside each of us in our own minds, simultaneously dwelling in the psyche of each living person on earth:
"We shall teach The Way to prepare your children for the indwelling Universal Messiah." - Nazirenes 96:20
Metaphysics: Making the Two One
As with DivisionTheory, and the gnostic "Gospel of Thomas", "Gospel of Philip", and "Gospel of Truth" found at Nag Hammadi, reconciling and integrating the dual nature of all being is a main focus of "Nazirenes". God is repeatedly called not "Father", but the Father-Mother, or the All- Parent. His attributes are repeatedly described with equal-but-opposite word pairings such as "Love and Wisdom", head and heart", "soul and spirit", "within and without", "right and left", and "male and female", and the "Oneness" of this divine pair, by whatever name, is constantly being mentioned, advocated, and described.
"And a certain prophet seeing [Jesus] said to him, "Behold the Love and the Wisdom of the Most High are One in thee...." - Nazirenes 6:5

These things being done, Jesus spoke these words ...:Thou has glorified me, Thou has filled my heart with fire. Thou has set lamps on my right hand and my left, so that no part of my being should be without light. Thy Love shines on my right hand, and Thy Wisdom on my left." - Nazirenes 76:11-12

"No one knows thee, save a Son, who also has the Daughter within; or a Daughter, who also has the Son within. No one know the Daughter or the Son save those to whom the Holy Spirit is revealed, who is the Two-in-One." - Nazirenes 44:14

"Far and near, the All-Parent knows His own. Yes, in each of you, the Fatherhood and the Motherhood may be seen; for the Father and the Mother are One in the All-Parent". - Nazirenes 50:8

Like DivisionTheory, and like the Gnostic Gospels recently unearthed in Egypt, "Nazirenes" declares that salvation comes through the reconciliation and integration of the two primordial elements of being:
"As it is above, so below. As it is within, so it is without. As on the right hand, so on the left. As it is before, so it is behind.

As with the great so with the small. As with the male, so with the female. When these things shall be seen, then you shall see the Kingdom of the Most High. For in me there is neither male not female, yet both are One. The woman is not without the man, nor is the man without the woman. isdom is not without Love, nor is Love without Wisdom. The head is not without the heart, nor is the heart without the head, in the Holy Spirit which atones all things." - Nazirenes 52:9-11
And one of them said, "Teacher, it is written of old, "The Elohim made man in their own image, male and female created they them." How can you say then that the Lord is one?" And Jesus said to them, "Verily I say to you, in the Lord there is neither male nor female and yet both are one, and the Lord is the Two in One.

He is She and She is He. The Lord is Perfect, Infinite, and One. ...the Elohim created man in the Divine Image male and female, therefore is the Lord both male and female, not divided, but the Two in One, Undivided and Eternal." - Nazirenes 64:2, 6
And one said to him, "Teacher, when shall the Kingdom come?" And he answered and said, "When that which is without shall be as that which is within, and that which is within shall be as that which is without, and, the male with the female, neither male nor female, but the Two in One. They who have ears to hear, let them hear." -
Nazirenes 66:12

Francois Rabelais

Very little is available, to those of us who have embraced the Law of Thelema, pertaining to proper conduct, behavior, or etiquette. Aleister Crowley gave us some material, most of it consisting of Liber AL, Duty, Liber Oz, etc. This material, however, is open to interpretation, and in some instances, there are details that cannot be openly discussed without becoming “centers of pestilence.”

Francois Rabelais dreamt of a place called The Abbey of Thelema where the law would be, "Do as thou wouldst." His plan was greatly detailed, leaving very little to dispute, and this makes him a perfect source of information for Thelemic living, forming a Thelemic community, or at the very least; for the proper conduct for those of us who have embraced these principles. He was so exact in his descriptions of the architecture that a modern architect was able actually construct his Abbey of Thelemé.

He was a Catholic monk who lived in the 15th century France. He loved the monastic lifestyle, but could not agree with many of the principles embodied by the Church. It is interesting to note, that he was alive at time when the Roman Catholic Church was at a crisis, and Calvinism began to spread throughout Europe. This provided Rabelais with the opportunity to "jump ship;" an opportunity he decided to pass up. Despite his disagreements with its dogma, and that he would ridicule the priesthood in his works, he preferred to remain faithful to the Roman Catholic Church. This got him into much trouble, as he could not keep his mouth shut. He was a learned, very well spoken man, whose dialogue was so intriguing he was often sought out by the higher elite class of France to attend social functions: His well-to-do friends got him out of trouble many times when the Church wanted to send him to the stake; he appears to have loved decadent living.

He was a man of the times. The Western world was exposed for the first time to the Byzantine culture when Constantinople fell. Gunpowder was employed for the first time and brought the end to the age of Chivalry and Honor. The invention of the printing press brought knowledge to everyone, and topics like science, warfare, fencing, astronomy, medicine, architecture, zoology, botany, and chemistry fascinated and molded Rabelais psyche. He began his career as a writer by editing the medical works of Hippocrates and others. He was a man in love with knowledge who was intimately familiar and obsessed with medieval philosophy.

Because he believed in the dignity of humanity he was referred to as a humanist. He believed that it was man's right to enjoy all things of pleasure and was therefore labeled a hedonist. Over the years he has became somewhat of a legend, Crowley's respect for Rabelais certainly cannot be underestimated, probably due to the fact that Crowley shared Rabelais prankster-like quality.

His father was a successful lawyer, and his mother was a woman of some nobility. He was born February 4, 1494 in a place called La Deviniere, and was baptized at the church of Saint-Pierre de Seuilly; a Benedictine abbey. He had a sister and two brothers to share in the family estate at the death of his parents. It is rumored that he did not receive his share due to the fact that he had entered a religious order known as the Franciscan Order, and although he believed poverty to be "an affliction like no other", had taken a vow of poverty.

His mind was shaped by three disciplines: Medicine, Theology, and Law.

At the monastery, he had gotten into considerable trouble for having a library of Greek books at a time when the Church perceived such works as heresies. This library was taken by his superiors, but was restored thanks to an admirer with considerable clout. Rabelais was then encouraged to leave the Franciscan Order and seek admission to a more liberal organ of the Church known as The Benedictine Order.

The root of his ideas emerged from the wellspring of classical literature. The banned works of pagan Greek and Roman writers provided Rabelais with much of his ideology. During a time of oppressive Christianity, there was nothing dated or outworn about Plato, Cicero, Livy and others. During those oppressive times, the rediscovery of the classics was to Rabelais indistinguishable to rediscovering truth.

He was concerned with the development of human virtue in all forms to the fullest possible extent. Not just qualities like understanding, kindness, empathy or forgiveness, but also courage, discrimination, discretion, articulacy and even love of honor. He held that action without insight was pointless and barbaric, and likewise rejected insight without action as unproductive and flawed. He looked upon philosophy and poetry as ways to educate of the young and instruct adults (especially rulers). His work, may sound exaggerated to the modern mind, but his criticism of the various bureaucracies of his time was quiet realistic. Held humanity in such high regard that he subscribed to the utopian idea that men and women, when left to their own devices, would be true to their own nature, and do the right thing in every case. In short, with his writings, he called for the comprehensive reform of culture.

His works were compiled into one tome containing five books. Much of what he wrote got him into trouble with ecclesiastical authorities. On more than one occasion the stake was prepared to greet him, but managed to stay alive by disappearing; sometimes for several years at a time.

Sometime after 1530, he decided to turn in his robes for a medical career, which he pursued at the University of Montpellier. He had found his calling; from here forward he would be known as “Master Francois Rabelais, Doctor of Medicine.” He later went back to the Church, and was given permission to practice his medicine wearing the priestly robes. The only catch was that he would not operate or dissect humans, and that he would not charge for his services. In his usual mutinous manner, he ignored the order given him not to dissect, and in 1537 we find him in Montpellier lecturing in Greek and dissecting cadavers!

There is an incident which would indicate that he was held in high regards by the Church. It is rumored that in 1540 Rabelais became the father of a bastard son whose name was Theodule; who was to die at birth. It is said that “princes of the Church” attended the funeral

His works were often censored and labeled heretical. He became so disillusioned that he wrote he would give up writing all together, but as one will see, this lack of enthusiasm did not last.

He died in France April 9, 1553, and was buried in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Thelemites should really make the study of Rabelais and contemplate what he had to say about Thelema, and the Abbey. His writing is so smart, candid and entertaining, that I would recommend the interested student to spend an afternoon reading into the mind of one of the greatest, perhaps the first, Thelemic visionaries in recorded history. He was one of the fathers of Western realism, precursor of modernism and humanist. He was a great influence on other writers such as Jonathan Swift, Laurence Sterne, James Joyce and Aleister Crowley. He was a social critic, a lucid testimonial of humanistic ethics, and his writings were convincing, if often extreme, proposals for human rights. His targets were (and still continue to be) social institutions and intellectual discipline, concentrating mostly on religious tenets which suppress creativity, governmental bodies which reward hypocrisy, learning institutions that encourage idleness, and philosophical techniques that obscure elemental reality. He was a proponent for human dignity and believed it could be achieved by bringing the physical and the mental into a healthy balance. He believed true learning to be a birthright, the genuineness and importance of direct experience.

It will quickly become apparent to the reader that much of Rabelais' descriptions are as impractical for modern life as they were in his time. It is hoped that that this will not discourage the truly devoted Thelemite: It is presented this in hopes that it will stimulate the unique creativeness within the individual; that together we might dream a little; as Rabelais did; and that we may live to create a way of life which we can be proud of.

The Abbey of Theleme

As excerpted from The Portable Rabelais: The Uninhibited Adventures of Gargantua and Pantagruel, (Viking Press, 1960), in the lively modern version by Samuel Putnam and with his revealing introductory essay:

How Gargantua Had the Abbey of Theleme Built for the Monk

There remained the monk to provide for. Gargantua wanted to make him Abbot of Seuilly, but the friar refused. He wanted to give him the Abbey of Bourgueil or that of Saint-Florent, whichever might suit him best, or both, if he had a fancy for them. But the monk gave a peremptory reply to the effect that he would not take upon himself any office involving the government of others.

“For how,” he demanded, “could I govern others, who cannot even govern myself? If you are of the opinion that I have done you, or may be able to do you in the future, any worthy service, give me leave to found an abbey according to my own plan."

This request pleased Gargantua, and the latter offered his whole providence of Theleme, lying along the River Loire, at a distance of two leagues from the great Forest of Port-Huault. The monk then asked that he be permitted to found a convent that should be exactly the opposite of all other institutions of the sort.

“In the first place, then,” said Gargantua, “you don't want to build any walls around it; for all the other abbeys have plenty of those.”

“Right you are,” said the monk, “for where there is a wall in front and behind there is bound to be a lot of murmuring, jealousy and plotting on the inside.”

Moreover, in view of the fact that in certain convents in this world there is a custom, if any woman (by which, I mean any modest or respectable one) enters the place, to clean up thoroughly after her wherever she has been – in view of this fact, a regulation was drawn up to the effect that if any monk or nun should happen to enter this new convent, all the places they had set foot in were to be thoroughly scoured and scrubbed. And since, in other convents, everything is run, ruled, and fixed by hours, it was decreed that in this one there should not be any clock or dial of any sort, but that whatever work there was should be done whenever occasion offered. For, as Gargantua remarked, the greatest loss of time he knew was to watch the hands of the clock.

What good came of it? It was the greatest foolishness in the world to regulate one’s conduct by the tinkling of a timepiece, instead of by intelligence and good common sense.

Another feature: Since in those days women were not put into convents unless they were blind in one eye, lame, hunchbacked, ugly, misshapen, crazy, silly, deformed, and generally of no account, and since men did not enter a monastery unless they were snotty-nosed, underbred, dunces, and trouble-makers at home –

“Speaking of that,” said the monk, “of what use is a woman who is neither good nor good to look at?”

“Put her in a convent,” said Gargantua.

“Yes,” said the monk, “and set her to making shirts.”

And so, it was decided that in this convent they would receive only the pretty ones, the ones with good figures and sunny dispositions, and only the handsome, well set-up, good-natured men.

Item: Since in the convents of women, men never entered, except underhandedly and by stealth, it was provided that, in this one, there should be no women unless there were men also, and no men unless there were also women.

Item: Inasmuch as many men, as well as women, once received into a convent were forced and compelled, after a year of probation, to remain there all the rest of their natural lives -- in view of this, it was provided that, here, both men and women should be absolutely free to pick up and leave whenever they happened to feel like it.

Item: Whereas, ordinarily, the religious take three vows, namely, those of chastity, poverty and obedience, it was provided, that, in this abbey, one might honorably marry, that each one should be rich, and that all should live in utter freedom.

Merging Consciousness With Galactic Centre

THE GALACTIC CENTRE
© 2006 Soluntra King

The Galactic Centre is 26,000 Light Years from the Sun, and we are aligning with it now as we come to the end of the cycle, we become the Sun of our true Self (Second coming, Christ within)
as our Earth becomes a Sun, illuminated from within, the Sun becomes a Central Sun, the Central Sun a Greater Central Sun, and as we unify
we experience Heaven on Earth that we create through our love and divinity, all is Light.
The official thought is that the Galactic Centre is a super-massive Black Hole, a Black Hole sucks in all light and matter that comes its way, time and space and the dimensions compress, zero magnetics and the Void where all is manifest. The Galactic Centre also has a few dense stellar supper clusters that host massive stars and a collection of wispy magnetic filaments.
The Galactic Centre is at 26 degrees of Sagittarius and is just 4 degrees off the December Solstice and whenever the Sun makes a seasonal ingress it is within days/degrees of a major aspect to the Galactic Centre. Pluto the planet of transformation is conjunct the Galactic Centre now and on the June Solstice 2001 and Solar Eclipse, aligned with the Galactic Centre the Earth moved 5th dimensional.
The Galactic Centre according the Maya and many other cosmic cultures is where souls pass after death, and re-birthed, where time and space have collapsed totally and do not exist, the impulse from the Void, the universe pulses out creating life and flows in creating transformation, the cross over place. The Galactic Centre is a gateway of change. it opens us up to multi-dimensional spaces and we can access our past and future all now in holograms of light. The Galactic Centre emits massive amounts of infra red rays which activate us to remember our true radiance and light and ground it within us, we are continually stimulated by the Galactic Centre and the pulses are measured by the Mayan Calendar as our collective consciousness becomes lighter and we open up to our multi-dimensional self and body of Light. The Mayan pyramids were built expressing the levels of consciousness and the centre of the pyramid was the portal that allowed these pulses in their highest light to ground in the physical through the initiation of King/Queen/Priest/Priestess and through the grids to all humanity, now we are the initiate, the portal, the pyramid, the doorway.
We are aligning with the Galactic Centre, the Interstellar Dust Cloud as we complete the great cycle and become one with the Sun within, as we open to the codes of light that illuminate from the Sun, Central Sun, Greater Central Sun and Inner Earth Sun.

CONNECTING TO THE PULSE THAT COMES FROM THE GALACTIC CENTRE EACH DAY
There is a pulse coming to us each day that you may want to be open to receiving and allow yourself to be in the light waves that illuminate through the Galactic Centre from Source. Connect within; in your own way and be open the Galactic Centre, connect to the pulse of today, you may be surprised by the grace and peace that come to you.

MERGING WITH THE GALACTIC CENTRE
Merging with the Galactic Centre makes good sense for all your healing, unifying, activating, awakening and anchoring work.
We are doing this in our Earthsun Body; that assists us to be clear and is a tuning rod that is connecting our physical, etheric, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies with those bodies of the Earth. Allowing and assisting unlimited awareness and being your body of light, master of yourself, refreshed, re-vitalized, physically immortal, the divine being you truly are.

The Pineal Gland And The Doorway To The Cosmos

The Third Eye and the Pineal Gland

http://www.strayreality.com/Lanis_Strayreality/thirdtyepinealgland.htm

The Third Eye and the Pineal Gland

The symbol of the All-Seeing-EYE has always been part of Earth's creation mythologies and mysteries.
In Ancient Egypt is was symbolized by the Eye of Horus.
The symbol was passed down through the ancient mystery teachings and and can be found on the American dollar bill.
Why the symbol of the EYE?
The eye is the observer of reality - or the illusion of reality.
In the physical body your eyes look outward - though it views objects upside down. It next sends the message of what it observes to the brain, which interprets the image and makes it appear right side-up to us.
But the human body has another physical eye whose function has long been recognized by humanity.
It is called the 'Third Eye' which in reality is the Pineal Gland. It is the Spiritual Third Eye, our Inner Vision, and it is considered the Seat of the Soul. It is located in the geometric center of the cranium.

The pineal gland is cone-shaped.

The Pineal Gland is about the size of a pea, and is in the center of the brain in a tiny cave behind and above the pituitary gland which lies a little behind the root of the nose. It is located directly behind the eyes, attached to the third ventricle.
The true function of this mysterious gland, has long been contemplated by philosophers and Spiritual Adepts. Ancient Greeks believed the pineal gland to be our connection to the Realms of Thought. Descartes called it the Seat of the Soul.
This gland is activated by Light, and it controls the various biorhythms of the body. It works in harmony with the hypothalamus gland which directs the body's thirst, hunger, sexual desire and the biological clock that determines our aging process.
When the pineal gland awakens one feels a pressure at the base of the brain. This pressure will often be experienced when connecting to higher frequency. A head injury can also activate the Third Eye - Pineal Gland.
While the physiological function of the pineal gland has been unknown until recent times, mystical traditions and esoteric schools have long known this area in the middle of the brain to be the connecting link between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Considered the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans, the pineal gland has always been important in initiating supernatural powers. Development of psychic talents has been closely associated with this organ of higher vision.

The third eye can see beyond the physical….

The pineal gland contains a complete map of the visual field of the eyes, and it plays several significant roles in human functioning. There is a pathway from the retinas to the hypothalamus called the retinohypothalamic tract. It brings information about light and dark cycles to a region of the hypothalamus called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN).
From the SCN, nerve impulses travel via the pineal nerve (sympathetic nervous system) to the pineal gland. These impulses inhibit the production of melatonin. When these impulses stop (at night, when light no longer stimulates the hypothalamus), pineal inhibition ceases and melatonin is released. The pineal gland is therefore a photosensitive organ and an important timekeeper for the human body.
Retinal research done with hamsters demonstrates another center for melatonin production. Located in the retina, this center implies that the eyes have their own built in circadian timepiece. This retinal system is distinct from the brain’s body clock in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Biologists found that they could throw the retinal rhythms out of sync with other circadian cycles. They also found that they could set and reset the retinal clock even when the SCN was destroyed.

The retinal clock produces (stimulates the production of?) melatonin. Researchers are now looking for the exact location (s) of this clock in the human eye (and expect to find it). No one yet knows what the separate clock is for or how it relates to the SCN.
In some lower vertebrates the Epiphysis Cerebri - Pineal Gland - has a well-developed eye-like structure; in others though not organized as an eye, it functions as a light receptor. In lower vertebrates, the pineal gland has an eye like structure and it functions as a light receptor and is considered by some to be the evolutionary forerunner of the modern eye.
The gland weighs little more than 0.1 gram. The gland is large in children and begins to shrink with the onset of puberty.
The pineal gland is large in children, but shrinks at puberty. It appears to play a major role in sexual development, hibernation in animals, metabolism, and seasonal breeding. In humans it affects circadian rhythms, sleep patterns (melatonin levels increase at night), and is implicated in seasonal affective disorder. The abundant melatonin level in children, is believed to inhibit sexual development. When puberty arrives, melatonin production is reduced.
The pineal gland secretes melatonin during times of relaxation and visualization. As we are created by electromagnetic energy - and react to EM energy stimuli around us - so does the pineal gland.
When activated, the pineal gland becomes the line of communication with the higher planes. The crown chakra reaches down until its vortex touches the pineal gland. Prana, or pure energy, is received through this energy center in the head. With Practice the vibration level of the astral body is raised, allowing it to separate from the physical.

To activate the 'third eye' and perceive higher dimensions, the pineal gland and the pituitary body must vibrate in unison, which is achieved through meditation and/or relaxation. When a correct relationship is established between personality, operating through the pituitary body, and the soul, operating through the pineal gland, a magnetic field is created.
The negative and positive forces interact and become strong enough to create the 'light in the head.' With this 'light in the head' activated, astral projectors can withdraw themselves from the body, carrying the light with them.
Astral travel, and other occult abilities, are closely associated with the development of the 'light in the head'. After physical relaxation, concentration upon the pineal gland is achieved by staring at a point in the middle of the forehead. Without straining the muscles of the eye, this will activate the pineal gland and the 'third eye'.
Beginning with the withdrawal of the senses and the physical consciousness, the consciousness is centered in the region of the pineal gland. The perceptive faculty and the point of realization are centralized in the area between the middle of the forehead and the pineal gland. The trick is to visualize, very intently, the subtle body escaping through the trap door of the brain.
A popping sound may occur at the time separation of the astral body in the area of the pineal gland.
Visualization exercises are the first step in directing the energies in our inner systems to activate the 'third eye'. The magnetic field is created around the pineal gland, by focusing the mind on the midway point between the pineal gland and the pituitary body. The creative imagination visualizes something, and the thought energy of the mind gives life and direction to this form.

'Third eye' development, imagination, and visualization are important ingredients in many methods to separate from the physical form. Intuition is also achieved through 'third eye' development. Knowledge and memory of the astral plane are not registered in full waking consciousness until the intuition becomes strong enough. Flashes of intuition come with increasing consistency as the 'third eye' as activated to a greater degree, through practice. Universal knowledge can also be acquired.
The pineal gland corresponds with divine thought after being touched by the vibrating light of Kundalini. Kundalini starts its ascent towards the head center after responding to the vibrations from the 'light in the head.' The light is located at the top of the sutratma, or 'soul thread', which passes down from the highest plane of our being into the physical vehicle.
The 'third eye,' or 'eye of Siva,' the organ of spiritual vision, is intimately related to karma, as we become more spiritual in the natural course of evolution.
As human beings continue to evolve further out of matter, on the journey from spirit to matter back to spirit, the pineal gland will continue to rise from its state of age-long dormancy, bringing back to humanity astral capacities and spiritual abilities.
At certain brain wave frequencies, a sense of ego boundary vanishes. In the "theta" state, we are resting deeply and still conscious, at the threshold of drifting away from or back into conscious awareness. As the brain enters deeper states, our consciousness is less concerned with the physical state, our 'third eye' is active, and separation becomes natural.
Many native traditions and mystical practices refer to the ability of 'seeing,' or being aware of energy fields at higher levels. This abstract awareness is much more subjective and does not involve the normal level of mundane consciousness, which is mostly concerned with self-identity. This 'seeing' refers to the sight of the 'third eye'.

Consciousness is raised from an emotional nature into an illumined awareness when the pineal gland is lifted from dormancy. If the pineal gland is not yet fully developed, it will be in the course of evolution. When our sense of ego and personality are set aside and we keep our mental energy intact, we can become conscious of the non-physical, our inner self, the subconscious, through different practices to activate the 'light in the head.'

The Third Eye and LSD

The belief that in madness there may exist a core of numinous knowledge is a commonplace in all human societies. In the Western tradition, the doctrine that truth may be obtained through a state of mind, in which reason is dislocated, a state of ecstatic revelation, is generally supposed to have originated with the Thracian worship of Dionysius, later becoming synthesized by Pythagorus, and to have received its most complete elaboration in the dialogues of Plato.
The class of drugs of which LSD-25 is the most potent member may prove for our time to be a very useful tool in exploring, via the scientific method, the roots of this age-old dilemma concerning the nature of perceived reality. That madmen may often be capable of incredible accomplishment should be obvious to everyone living in this century, whose history has been so monstrously deformed by the activities of an undeniable madman, Adolf Hitler.
These disputations most frequently arise in connection with accomplishment in the creative arts, where the biographies of many greatly talented people are replete with histories of bizarre behavior of one kind or another.
It is impossible, however, to make such correlation on any kind of statistical basis, since for every "mad artist" on the model of Van Gogh, one can point to two equally creative, original, and productive artists on the sane and sober models of J. S. Bach or T. S. Eliot.
In addition to the artificially induced LSD state, there are other, naturally occurring temporary states in which there is a collapse of the normal routines by which the mind ordinarily processes the information it receives of the outside world.
Not only Hitler but before him Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon Bonaparte all reportedly suffered from mysterious seizures which overtook them at seemingly random times--often inconveniently. Dostoevsky also suffered from these states, and his reports of them are sufficiently detailed to permit a more certain medical diagnosis of his affliction--some kind of psycho-motor epilepsy.

As he describes the "aura" which precedes his seizures, the language is remarkably similar to that used by LSD subjects. Dostoevsky wrote: "For a few moments I experience such happiness as is impossible under ordinary circumstances and of which other people can have no notion. I feel complete harmony in myself and in the world and this feeling is so strong and sweet that for several seconds of such bliss, one would give ten years of one's life; indeed, perhaps one's whole life."
Others have reported on these aura states as well. Along with the feelings of peace and euphoria, there is a general impression of a clear and golden shimmering light. Quite often there is a sense of cerebral clarity as well, and solutions of a lovely simplicity appear for the most intractably knotted problems.
None of the names used to describe the class of drugs to which LSD belongs and which produce these peculiar states of altered consciousness is completely satisfactory. When they were first developed, they were called psychotomimetic (imitative of psychosis), but this term rang unhappily in the ears of many who felt that the word implied pathology and thus made a negative value judgment.
Another name for them, hallucinogenic, was unfortunate in that it rendered an epistemological judgment--hallucinations being by definition unreal or untrue--and if one is to maintain a proper stance of scientific objectivity, one must suspend judgment regarding the reality of reality. For it is just possible that in some way these drugs augment our sense receptors or in some way so alter the mechanism of their functioning that another dimension of reality is made manifest.
This last notion is the one implied in the term psychedelic (mind manifesting), which seems gradually to be coming into general use to describe both the class of drugs and those states of mind with which they are associated.

THERE is a vast literature running back for thousands of years which describes psychedelic experiences, long before 1938, when Albert Hofmann first synthesized d-lysergic acid dyethylamide. Some of the literature describes attacks, sudden, spontaneous, and totally unexpected, like that attack which overcame St. Paul on the road to Damascus.
Other traditions in the literature describe states that were induced by fasting, by the sensory deprivation resulting from disciplined meditation (the willful exclusion of sensory input), by hysteria through frenzied dancing or orgiastic sexuality, by hypnosis, or by the use of various natural psychedelic intoxicants.
Reports of these kinds of exalted states have come to us not only through the literature of religious fanaticism; such accomplished scientists as Pascal and Newton have written of being overcome by mystic trances to which they attribute many of their creative insights. William James well understood that the mystic was often able to effect an almost miraculous synthesis between this world of "imagined" reality and the world of phenomena.

In recent years, psychology has tended, to its discredit, to ignore these elements of William James's thought. One of the happy by-products of LSD has been the revival of interest in William James on the part of academic psychologists who had previously thought that these concerns of his were a cranky eccentricity in the body of his worthwhile work.
Two famous reports of modern times of this kind of correlation--between the hard factual world of science and the dream world of the psychedelic state--are those of Friedrich Kekule, the German chemist who has written that he was "presented with" the closed-chain theory of the structure of the benzene molecule, during one such dream-trance state, and Otto Loewi, who wrote that in 1921 he awakened from a dream in which was described to him the means by which chemical transfer was accomplished, between nerve and effecter cells. Loewi rushed down to his laboratory, where he proceeded to prove the reality of the dream--an accomplishment which led to the Nobel Prize.
From the time of Dionysius, to the time of Plato, the cultures of the Mediterranean consented to this doctrine that claimed the existence of an order of ultimate reality which lies beyond apparent reality, and that this "paranormal" reality is accessible to the consciousness only when the "normal" routines of mental data processing are dislocated.
It was Plato's pupil Aristotle who spoiled his master's game. Following upon Aristotle, Western philosophy became bifurcated. The philosophical temper of our civilization, being scientifically and technically oriented, is basically Aristotelian.
No such rational figure as Aristotle arose in the Orient to a position of equal eminence. Regardless of the reasons, Indian anatomists and zoologists, who were no doubt just as curious as the Greeks about the origins of life, and as skilled in dissection, did not feel compelled to set their disciplines up in opposition to metaphysics. Metaphysical philosophy and natural philosophy remained joined like Siamese twins. As a result, that discipline which became medicine in the West evolved into a system known as Kundilini Yoga in the Hindu culture. This was a system designed to produce in those who followed its teachings a condition of controlled "creative" madness.

The system made a heroic attempt to join together the seeming disparate entities of body and mind. It is a very complicated doctrine; in oversimplified terms, the system encourages the practitioner to progress through the control of six stages, called chakras, of body-mind coordination. The sixth, the highest and most exalted state, is called the sahasrara.
The physiological site of this sixth chakra, the sahasrara, is located in the center of the forehead; it is symbolized by an eye--the so-called third eye, the inner eye, or the eye of the mind. When this eye is opened, a new and completely other dimension of reality is revealed to the practitioner of yoga. Western scholars when they first came upon this literature took the third eye to be an appropriately poetic metaphor and nothing else.
But in the middle of the nineteenth century, as the subcontinent of Australia and its surrounding territory came to be explored, a flurry of zoological interest centered upon a lizard native to the area, the tuatara (Sphenodon punctatum).
This animal possessed, in addition to two perfectly ordinary eyes located on either side of its head, a third eye buried in the skull which was revealed through an aperture in the bone, covered by a transparent membrane, and surrounded by a rosette of scales. It was unmistakably a third eye, but upon dissection it proved to be nonfunctional.

Though it still possessed the structure of a lens and retina, these were no longer in good working order; also lacking were appropriate neural connections to the brain. But the presence of this eye in the tuatara still poses a puzzle to present-day evolutionists, for almost all vertebrates possess a homologous structure in the center of their skulls.
It is present in many fish, all reptiles, birds, and mammals (including humans). No functional role whatever could be imagined for this structure in humans, and it remained merely an anatomical curiosity until 1898, when Otto Heubner, a German physician, wrote a paper associating cancers of this organ with instances of precocious puberty in children. Heubner's observation was confirmed many times over in the intervening years and gave rise to a number of theories concerning the role of the pineal organ as a regulator of sexual maturity. Those who adhered to these theories considered the pineal to be a gland, but since no secretions could be isolated or identified as emanating from this organ, the theories remained unsubstantiated by clinical evidence.
IN 1948 no one was paying any attention to the pineal organ. A hematologist, Maurice Rapport, working in the Cleveland Clinic was engaged in the search for that substance in blood serum which could be related to the tendency of blood to clot, and which might also cause the constriction of blood vessels. He eventually found just such a substance; it tended to make blood form clots, and it tended to be a muscle- as well as a vaso-constrictor. Rapport named this substance serotonin; it is manufactured quite profusely by specialized cells lining the wall of the gut, and it is presumed to play a role of some kind in the peristaltic movements.
Directly as Rapport announced his discovery, the new chemical came under intensive scrutiny; biochemists were eager to find means of augmenting its role as a clotting agent and vasoconstrictor; they were also eager to find means of blocking these functions. It was E. J. Gaddum, a professor of pharmacology at the University of Edinburgh, who seems to have been one of the first to note a connection between serotonin and mental states of being.
In a paper published in 1953, he pointed out the odd fact that LSD-25 was a potent antagonist to serotonin. Two biochemists working at the Rockefeller Institute, D. W. Woolley and E. Shaw, were similarly struck by this odd coincidence. They tested a number of other chemicals antagonistic to serotonin and wrote in a rather startled tone "Among each of these compounds are some that cause mental aberrations....
If this be true, then the naturally occurring mental disorders--for example schizophrenia--which are mimicked by these drugs may be pictured as being the result of a cortical serotonin deficiency arising from metabolic failure rather than from drug action.

This announcement produced a thrill of excited hope, which was short-lived; there were other antagonists to serotonin just as potent as LSD which had no effect whatever on mental states.
Serotonin also refused to pass through the so-called "blood-brain barrier." If it was injected into the bloodstream of an animal (or a human), it did not seem to pass into the brain. But the medical profession accommodated itself easily to this particular disappointment; for this discovery and a series of others, which occurred during the same period gave rise to a whole new set of concepts concerning the roles of various chemical compounds manufactured within the brain.
Many of them were molecules of a type known as amines. They were not, strictly speaking, hormones, since they were not produced and secreted by glandular tissue, but by scattered specialized cells, including nerve cells. They came to be called, in a quaint reversion to eighteenth-century diction, neurohumors.
According to Webster, a humor is a fluid or juice of an animal or plant specifically one of the four fluids--blood, phlegm, choler, and melancholy--conceived as entering into the constitution of the body and determining, by their relative proportions, a person's health and temperament; hence one's disposition, or state of mind, whether constitutional, habitual, or temporary.
The discovery of the chemical nature of these humors led to the development of chemicals antagonistic to them and thus to entire families of humor-regulating drugs--the tranquilizers, anti-depressants, nervous-system stimulants, and so on.
But despite this new knowledge, the mystery of the LSD-serotonin antagonism persisted. Serotonin is not an unusual chemical in nature; it is found in many places--some of them odd, like the salivary glands of octopuses; others ordinary: it abounds in plants; bananas, figs, plums are especially rich in it.
What was it doing in the brains of humans? What was its evolutionary history?
In 1958 a Yale Medical School professor of dermatology named Aaron B. Lerner published a paper on the pineal gland which placed this elusive substance in some vague kind of historical perspective and provided for it a real functional role in the brains of mammals.
IT had been known since 1917 that if crushed pineal glands were introduced into water in which tadpoles were swimming, the skin color of the tadpoles would turn light. The chemical substance melanin is the pigment which darkens skin color. It is located in specialized cells scattered through the topmost layer of skin.
Pineal extract caused these cells to contract in tadpole skin and in certain other reptiles which change their skin color in response either to mood or environmental setting.

Lerner was interested in melanomas, cancers of the pigment cells of human skin; he was curious to find out if there was any possible connection between this skin-lightening substance found in pineals and cancer. After an incredible four-year project, during which time he dissected over 250,000 cattle pineal glands supplied to him by the Armour Company, he finally isolated the substance responsible, calling it melatonin, since it caused the contraction of melanin-producing cells.
He proved that melatonin was a hormone, that it was produced specifically by the pineal organ, and that therefore this organ was a true, functioning gland, not merely a vestigial sight organ, a relic from our reptilian past. He discovered, moreover, how melatonin was manufactured by the pineal--by the action of certain enzymes on a precursor chemical which must pre-exist in the pineal in order for it to be transformed into melatonin. This precursor chemical turned out to be serotonin.
But try as he would, Lerner could find no connection between melatonin and the pigment cells of mammalian skin. In fact, he could find no use whatever for melatonin in the body economy of mammals.
The task of exploring the role played by melatonin in the bodies of mammals was undertaken by a brilliant biochemist, Julius Axelrod, working at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, in the company of several young associates, notably Richard Wurtman and Solomon Snyder. They discovered the basic biochemical sequences performed by the pineal in the manufacture of melatonin; they found that it was produced from serotonin by the action of two enzymes, an acetylating enzyme and a methoxylating enzyme.
By blocking or augmenting the action of these enzymes, Axelrod and his assistants were able, most ingeniously, to stimulate or suppress the organism's own manufacture of melatonin. In the course of this work, it became apparent that Otto Heubner's old contention that the pineal produced a substance which interfered with sexual development was very close to the truth.
Melatonin did, in fact, suppress physiological sexuality in mammals. If test animals were stimulated to manufacture excessive amounts of melatonin, their gonads and ovaries tended to become reduced in size, to shrink, to atrophy. The estrous, or fertility, cycle in females could likewise be altered experimentally by doses of melatonin.
Now, two most curious functions had been attributed to the pineal gland, the third eye, the eye of the mind.
It had now been established that this organ produced a chemical which had, indirectly at least, been associated with psychedelic states. It also produced a chemical which suppressed functional sexuality.
The literature of religious mysticism in all ages and all societies has viewed the mystical passion of ecstasy as being somehow analogous to, or involved with, carnal passion.
In the pineal gland, in the eye of the mind, were discovered a hormone and a neurohumor which were functionally associated with both kinds of passion.

Axelrod and his co-workers also discovered another incredible fact. The pineal gland produces its chemicals according to a regular oscillating beat, the basis of this beat being the so-called circadian rhythm. This pulse remains constant if darkness and light follow one another through the course of the day in a regular alternation. They found that the pineal responded somehow to light conditions, that by altering light conditions they could extend, contract, even stabilize the chemical production rhythms of the pineal.
How does the pineal perceive light, directly, by being a light sensor itself, still performing some of the functions of an eye; or indirectly, via the central nervous system? The evidence is still not conclusive. Light does penetrate bone and brain to reach the pineal in significant amounts.
This was proved by a University of California zoologist, W. F. Ganong, who implanted photocells adjacent to the site of the pineal in sheep and got altered readings from his instruments depending on whether the animals were standing in direct sunlight or in shade.
On the other hand, if animals are blinded, or have the nerves connecting the eye to the brain severed, some of the pineal rhythms are dampened, just as though the animals were being maintained in continual darkness.
But there is still a sufficient number of discrepancies in the evidence to leave the question of direct light sensing by the pineal open for the moment. Axelrod and Wurtman believe that there are other, undiscovered chemicals being manufactured by the pineal, for they see signs of enzyme activity which cannot be accounted for by either serotonin or melatonin.
The fact that the pineal responds to light, even if this response is indirect via the central nervous system, has some fascinating and far-reaching conceptual applications.
There are many behavioral changes which overtake animals as the seasons change, and which can be produced out of season in the laboratory by simulating the appropriate span of artificial daylight.
Do such seasonal changes in mood and behavior persist in humans?

The great religious holy days of all faiths tend to cluster around the times of the solstices and equinoxes. Is it possible that the human pineal gland responds to these alterations in the length of daylight, and by changing the balance of neurohumors in the brain, perhaps effects a greater incidence of psychedelic states in certain susceptible individuals just at these crucial times? This possibility provides an entirely new potential dimension to our secular understanding of the religious experience.
Since Lerner had done his original pineal research at Yale, his colleagues belonging to various disciplines had become fascinated with his work even before it was published. As a result, Yale had a kind of head start in pineal research. Among the first to pursue the trail of pineal hormones and neurohumors was Nicholas Giarmin, a professor of pharmacology who had been a former student of Gaddum's at Edinburgh and remembered the connection Gaddum had made five years previous between LSD and serotonin.
With him worked a professor of psychiatry, Daniel Freedman, who had become fascinated by the whole new field of pharmacology and states of mind. They began by measuring the serotonin contents of the various parts of the human brain at autopsy. In order to make these measurements, one must exploit the very limits of our technological capacities. Neurohumors exist in the brain in infinitesimally small amounts.
They are measured by a unit known as the nanogram, which is one billionth of a gram. Not only are assay procedures highly critical, but since drastic chemical changes occur between that state which we call life, and that which we define as death, it is difficult to prove that the amounts of any given entity found on autopsy are the same as those which might be found in the same tissue in the flush of life.
Giarmin and Freedman confirmed that the human brain manufactures serotonin at various sites other than the pineal. It is produced in scattered isolated cells, but the density of these cells varies with their location in the brain. For example, in the thalamus, they discovered 61 nanograms of serotonin per gram of tissue; in the hippocampus, 56 ng.; in the central gray section of the midbrain, they found 482 ng. But in the pineal, they found 3140 ng. of serotonin per gram of tissue. The pineal was unmistakably the richest site of serotonin in the brain!
Since the pineal seems to produce serotonin in excess of its needs for melatonin production, what happens to this excess? Does the gland provide a kind of serotonin reservoir for the brain as a whole? Can one make a correlation between pineal serotonin and mental disorder?
As its name would imply, the pineal looks like a miniature pine cone sitting in the middle of the brain atop a stalklike appendage. The vascular and neural connections between it and the rest of the body run down this 2 stalk into the spinal column and the central nervous a system, not into the brain proper. If serotonin from the pineal does get back into the brain proper, it a must do so through such a circuitous route that many workers discredit this possibility.
Though their work only accidentally impinged on making such correlations, Giarmin and Freedman did find that the pineals of certain deceased mental patients who had suffered from specified mental disorders showed a considerable excess of serotonin in their pineals. The average amount of serotonin found in the pineals of normal persons is about 3.52 micrograms per gland.
One schizophrenic was found to have a pineal containing 10 micrograms of serotonin, while another patient, a sufferer from delirium tremens, had a pineal containing 22.82 micrograms of serotonin. Owing to the difficulties of obtaining the brains of the recently dead for autopsy, the Giarmin-Freedman sample is pathetically small, consisting only of thirteen cases.
The same difficulties which confronted them, also confront other workers who might be tempted to confirm these findings on a larger scale.
Strong suspicion has fallen now on serotonin as being one of the principal agents of the psychedelic experience, but whatever its role, it is certain that other neurohumors are additionally involved in the chemical transactions which produce the state. It is likely that LSD itself produces certain effects quite on its own.
Studies made with tracer elements and the electron microscope now reveal that LSD strikes like a chemical guerrilla, entering into receptor granules in brain cells swiftly, and then leaving swiftly after a very short time, perhaps ten or twenty minutes (in animals). This initial period coincides with the onset of the most violent symptoms of the LSD state as it is observed in test animals.
But when the twenty minutes are done, and the bulk of the LSD has left the receptor granules, it is replaced by what seems to be excessive, or supernormal, amounts of serotonin. Since the LSD state lasts for some ten hours, and during this time serotonin can be measured (again at autopsy) in supernormal amounts in receptor granules, it must be considered one of the important participants of that chemical transaction which produces the state.
However, melatonin possesses the same basic indole molecular structure as the LSD molecule. It is not at all difficult to imagine how this substance could be metamorphosed into a psychedelic material. But so far, injections of melatonin have produced no altered mental states in humans.
The use of LSD in exploring these strange dislocated states of mind is most convenient because the effects are invariably reliable, and within certain limits quite predictable. All the neurohumors tend to alter, in one way or another, the data processing programming of the brain. LSD is one of the keys which open the compartment into which this drastic new programming can be introduced.
Fasting as a means of altering body chemistry and so producing this kind of psychedelic state seems to be effective only among those who are marginally nourished in the first place.
Sensory deprivation IS effective, and for those who can will themselves into a state of such intense meditation as will exclude incoming signals from the environment, the computer model provides a simple analogy.

The brain is always working, but as these outside signals cease coming through, the brain begins processing peripheral data, memories from the past, sense impressions of such subtlety that they are normally bypassed in favor of more vivid input signals which affect survival and so on.
For most of us, most of the time, our world is a Darwinian environment. We must manipulate ourselves within it, or attempt to manipulate it in order to survive. These survival needs tend to color our appreciation of this world, and we are continually making judgments about it.
Some, of these judgments are based on prior personal experience, others are provided by the culture. This "recognition system" is one of the elements disrupted by the psychedelic state. Normally we anticipate that water will feel wet. To the madman, or the person entranced by LSD, the wetness of water can come as an incredible surprise.
The principal question concerning psychedelic estates remains: How much disruption can the system tolerate? "Cowper came to me," writes William Blake, "and said: 'O that I were insane always.... Can you not make me truly insane? I will never rest till I am so. O that in the bosom of God I was hid. You retain health and yet are as mad as any of us--over us all.'"

The problem of how to maintain a certain madness while at the same time functioning at peak efficiency has now captured the attention of many psychiatrists. There seems to be a point at which "creative" madness becomes degenerative, impeding function rather than stimulating it.
The mental hospitals are filled with patients who passed from transient, or occasional, psychedelic states into perpetual psychosis. Freedman, with the help of another Yale colleague, Malcolm Bowers, has collected a number of case histories of persons who were admitted into mental institutions for various acute psychotic seizures.
But as they speak and write about the onset of their illness, they describe psychedelic experiences. Why did they not "pass through" the experience to be enriched by it, as did William Blake? Here, for example, is the report of a twenty-one-year-old student who was removed to a mental hospital in "a severely agitated delusion state":
"I [began to be] fascinated by the little insignificant things around me. There was an additional awareness of the world that would do artists, architects and painters good. I ended up by being too emotional, but I felt very much at home with myself, very much at ease....it was not a case of seeing more broadly, but deeper.
I was losing touch with the outside world, and lost my sense of time....I could see more deeply into the problems other people had and would go directly into a deeper subject with a person. I had the feeling that I loved everybody in the world. Sharing emotions was like wiping the shadow away, wiping away a false face."

Bowers and Freedman do not tell us the final history of this patient. We do know, however, that Cowper asked for insanity and got it. He died a gibbering idiot, while Blake lived on into a ripe and irritable old age, still working, still writing, still slipping in and out of his mysterious states, which allowed him a clear and brilliant vision of a world which, if the rest of us see at all, we see as through a glass darkly.

Man is unique by virtue of being possessed by intuitions concerning the scope of the mysterious universe he inhabits. He has devised for himself all manner of instruments to probe the nature of this universe. Now at last, with the molecule of this strange acid, he has found an instrument which opens the inner eye of the mind and which may hopefully allow him to explore the vast interior spaces, where the history of millions of years of memories lie entangled among the roots of the primordial self. Through it we may find a means of understanding more clearly the roots of madness and of helping the insane to return to the world of commonplace reality.

Breakfast Breakthrough That Cures Diabetes

Now updated with the results of a groundbreaking new study that proves diabetes is reversible in only three weeks!

Welcome to the down-to-Earth guide on beating type-2 diabetes. Five years ago, I used to be borderline diabetic. I weighed 220 pounds, suffered from severe carbohydrate cravings, mood swings, and depression. Using the very same natural health strategies revealed here, I beat diabetes and hyperinsulinemia and today maintain a steady blood sugar level of 87, without drugs or insulin.

Halting diabetes is quite straightforward using basic biochemical cause and effect. It's relatively easy to explain. The only reason people don't beat their diabetes is because: 1) they don't know about this information, and 2) organized medicine doesn't teach anybody this information. Drug companies would much prefer to keep you dependent on insulin and diabetes drugs. The moment you beat this disease, they lose a customer.

It's proven: Diabetes can be reversed. According to a groundbreaking new study completed by researchers at UCLA and other California universities, changes in diet and moderate exercise actually reverse diabetes in at least 50% of patients in only three weeks! In only three weeks time, the amount of cholesterol and free radicals in the test subjects' blood was lower and their nitric oxide levels were higher, which are all factors in stopping diabetes before it takes its toll on limbs and life. (Did you know that diabetes is the number one cause of leg amputations in the United States?)

Just one strategy revealed here utterly eliminates the need for insulin in 70% of diabetic patients. Other strategies described in this guide halt blood sugar swings, reduce stress on your pancreas, and help return your body to its normal, healthy state of blood sugar management.

You'll not only beat diabetes: what you're about to learn in this guide will also stave off heart disease, protect your brain and nervous system, and result in the natural reduction of excess body fat. These are just a few of the positive, health-promoting side effects of what you'll learn in this guide.

How I discovered the truth about diabetes

My name is Mike Adams, and I'm known as the Health Ranger. I'm the primary contributor to a natural health news network that now reaches over half a million readers each month. I've written over 1,500 articles on health, nutrition and disease prevention, and I've dedicated over 5,000 hours of my life to studying the true underlying causes of disease and health.

In that time, I learned that organized medicine never teaches people how to prevent or reverse diabetes. Our entire medical system is geared to treating or "managing" this so-called disease, but never in helping people be free from it.

And yet, as I learned, being free from diabetes isn't rocket science. By applying a few key natural health principles -- and changing some core habits -- any person can prevent or even reverse this metabolic disorder. If everyone applied this information, diabetes could be wiped out virtually overnight. We can beat this disease, all around the world, based on what we know right now!

Yet you'll never hear the truth from doctors, drug companies or even diabetes organizations. Our nation's best-known diabetes organization is, in fact, funded by soft drink companies. The president of that organization is on the record stating that sugar consumption doesn't even promote diabetes. How's that for denial? It's all a system of corruption and Big Business, and you -- the diabetes patient -- keep paying the price.

Now for some straight talk

If you're tired of being financially exploited by doctors and drug companies while you suffer from this entirely reversible disease -- and you're ready to be free of diabetes for the rest of your life -- you're ready to read How to Halt Diabetes In 25 Days.

Health Benefits Of Green Tea

Beneficial effects of green tea have been known for millenia, particularly in Asian cultures. An ancient Chinese proverb says: "Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one". A cup of green tea contains up to 200 mg of catechins, whose biological activity has been mainly attributed to its antioxidant activity. Efficiency of green tea extract in oral hygiene has been known for centuries and this gave researchers a clue that antibacterial activity might be involved.

Now researchers from the National institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana, Slovenia discovered that the main ingredients of green tea are able to perform other tricks. They found out that green tea catechins inhibit essential bacterial enzyme DNA gyrase, which is the target of several existing clinically used drugs. By the use of NMR spectroscopy, researchers from Slovenia have now pinpointed the ATP-binding site of DNA gyrase as target of EGCG, the most abundant catechin from the green tea extract. Up to now several compounds targeted against the ATP-binding site of bacteria gyrase have been known but couldn't be used as drugs due to their side effects on mammalian cells.

Lead researcher Roman Jerala, the head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology at NIC explains: "We can anticipate to avoid the problem of toxicity using the compounds based on the green tea catechins, which have centuries of established safety record in the human diet."

This finding may be used to develop even more potent antibacterial compounds. Results were recently published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.

Hyperdimensional Experience

The following testimonial arrived in our office today. It is just one of many that prove that we are applying Tesla's technology correctly in the manufacture of our Hyperdimensional Oscillator, which is in fact a miniturised Teslascope, a machine designed by Tesla in the 1930s.

The original Teslascope device was designed to receive signals from other dimensions.

Read more about this incredible device at http://www.lifetechnology.org/hyperdimensional.htm

Kind Regards
Kirsty Stewart PHD(PR Dept. Life Technology)

Hi. My name is Jacqueline. I have been wearing your
hyperdimensional oscillator and the results have
been...well...just, unbelievable. unbelievable.

Friday night, my brain went into some kind of trance.
My eyes started to flutter. My brain started to
"spasm"... and almost sucked all the electricity out
of the complex, then a few seconds later, like an
explosion of energy, shot out like a wave into the far
reaches of the universe came out of my body....so
intense. and right before this, I can hear voices
somewhere in my room...like on a radio, but I know
it's about to happen when I start hearing voices.

I get a little scared when the voices come because
that's their way of letting me know they're about to
tap into my mind and share their experience with me.
I was so scared after this 3am incident.

I kept my eyes closed for about an hour after it
happened because I was afraid that if I opened them,
there might be an alien in my room, asking me why I
contacted them! ...but, no aliens...thank goodness!
I was afraid though! I sent a powerful message
somewhere...a message more powerful than any radio
tower could've sent...I don't know who got it but,
well, something was delivered! ha ha

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you this because it's
always good to have reliable testimonials...you can
always give out my email address or phone number to
skeptical customers and I would be happy to talk to
them...(I used to be a skeptic too).

I think my life is going in a very abundant direction
now...now that I realize with my new energy
capabilities I can create whatever I want.

I am trying to purchase everything from your store.

I am mostly interested in the stargate portal.

Do you have any information you could send me on it?

Gregg Braden On Global Warming

Gregg Braden is probably the most recognized person who is evaluating and
revealing the scientific phenomena pointing to this shift. He became
intrigued with all this when he was working for Phillips Petroleum in the
late 1970s and noticed that the magnetics of the earth were at their lowest
point in 2000 years and decreasing at a rapid rate.

Eventually, Braden wrote a book - Awakening to Zero Point - that documented
this and other indicators of our rapidly changing planet.

Wynn: Is it true that the magnetic poles of the earth are in the process of
shifting right now?

Gregg: In May-June-July of 2002, it was very well acknowledged and esteemed
scientific journals actually were saying for the first time that we are in
the process of a polar reversal.

Back in the 1960s, geologists were certain that the earth periodically went
through a reversal. They could tell from core samples, ice samples, and
fossils, as well as magnetized particles that were locked into certain
positions in the rock of the earth. Geologists were so certain about this
phenomenon that they actually mapped out the last four-and-a-half-million
years, and the resulting records suggested that the earth has gone through
fourteen of these polar reversals.

At that time, back in 1961 and 1962, scientists felt that the last pole
reversal occurred at about the time of the last Ice Age, ten to twelve
thousand years ago. And they were certain it would happen again, but not for
thousands of years, so it was nothing to worry about.

But through the 1990s, geologists continued to refine this kind of
information. They had been saying it took thousands of years for this to
happen. Then they began to say, "Well, it can happen in hundreds of years."
But now, recent evidence from some of the ice cores in Greenland and
Antarctica say that it could happen in as little as a decade.

But now, we know that the poles are actually moving. We're living it right
now. We don't know exactly what that means, because even though it's
happened fourteen times in the last four and a half million years, it's
never happened with six billion people on the earth.

Wynn: Are you saying that it's common knowledge?

Gregg: It's common knowledge to people that need to know these things. For
example, FAA regulations say that when the poles move beyond five or eight
degrees, the runways at the airports have to be renumbered to correlate with
the magnetic headings that the pilots are seeing. The first airport in the
United States to comply with this mandate was Minneapolis/St. Paul, where
they spent something on the order of eighty-five thousand dollars to go
through and renumber the runway headings. But what happened in the May-June-July time frame of 2002 is that journalssuch as Nature, Science, Scientific American, and New Scientist released reports saying that we are definitely in the process of a magnetic reversal, and the AP wires picked it up.

Scientists have no idea what the impact is going to be to electronic and
electromagnetic power grids. But even more, they don't know what it means to
human immune systems. Alternative healing modalities have shown a connection
between magnetics and the immune system, which also would imply that our
immune systems could very well be keyed into the magnetic fields of the
earth.

We know that birds and animals migrate along the lines of these magnetic
fields. So there is speculation that the changes taking place in the
magnetic field are responsible for the changing migratory patterns in birds
that have been recorded in Asia and North America.

The change in the fields also may explain why whales are beaching
themselves. The lines of navigation that the whales have always followed
have shifted and now lead them onto a beach. When we take them back out into
the water and set them free, they continue to align themselves with the same
magnetic lines, and in following them, they end up on the beach again.

So, yes, it's common knowledge now. The most respected scientific journals
say that we're in this shift. And even though we don't know precisely what
that means, it's significant that it is being acknowledged in peer-review
kinds of literature, and not just in speculative or pseudo-scientific
magazines.

Wynn: When was this magnetic shift first acknowledged?

Gregg: It would have been in the June/July time frame of 2002. People were
sending me emails that they had seen it, and giving me references. I also
found references in the magazines myself.

Wynn: Would we survive a complete pole shift?

Gregg: Any answer to that question must of necessity lie within the realm of
speculation, because in traditional recorded human history it's never
happened. On the other hand, there are Native traditions and ancient Hebrew
biblical traditions suggesting that a magnetic shift may have happened even
more recently than the last Ice Age. That was 10,000 to 12,000 years ago,
but these traditions suggest that the last shift may have happened as
recently as 3,600 years ago.

Native legends speak of a day 3,600 years ago when the sun rose from the
west as it had always done, hovered in the sky for more than a full day, and
set in the east - but the next day, it rose in the east and set in the west,
as it does today. Hebrew traditions speak of this event, also, saying that
it happened during a battle. The ancient Hebrews took it as a sign that one
side was receiving celestial assistance, because it stayed light long enough
for the battle to complete in their favor.

We can't verify this in the rock or fossil records, because 3,600 years is
too short a period of time for such an event to be reflected there. All we
have to go by are traditions, legends, and myths preserved in oral and
written documents.

What the trandition tells us, however, is that if something like this were
to happen, the people of the earth would live through it. It would have to
be a really strange day to live through, but if the ancient legends are
true, it happened and the people apparently survived. However, we don't know
how it affected their lives.

Wynn: Do you have any idea how this magnetic shift might change
consciousness?

Gregg: The speculation is that there is a correlation between consciousness
and magnetics. In order to understand how this connection might work, it is
useful to compare it to a computor's memory. The magnetic fields in the
memory are held in place through an electrical charge - a trickle charge -
within the computer itself. When the batteries in the computer die, the
charge is gone, and the memory is lost. We have to reload the operating
system.

Similarly, by researchers and descendents of indigenous peoples believe that
when the earth goes through what science sees as a magnetic reversal, it
also will be a great shift and cleansing of the earth's consciousness. There
will be nothing holding all the magnetic patterns that have been put in
place. So when we awaken from this shift, what becomes consciousness will be
our truest nature, our truest essence. And the memory of all of the evil or
all the bad things or all of the grudges or the ego and we've held against
one another as individuals and nations will not be part of that new
consciousness, that new grid.

From that perspective, many traditions predict, sense, or speculate that we
are nearing a time of what they call the Great Cleansing, and that this
cleansing is happening at a level of core memory of consciousness.

Wynn: So is it possible to assume that in some way, our memory is connected
to this magnetic field?

Gregg: I think so. I think that because of the strange accounts of the
astronauts who left earth and went into space during the Apollo Program. In
leaving the earth's atmosphere and circling the planet many miles above the
surface, the affects of earth's magnetics were negligible. And the
astronauts began to have experiences that they were not prepared or trained
for, that were totally unanticipated.

When they were in space and looked back to earth, they began having insights
and feelings, awakenings and awarenesses that they had never had when they
were on the earth. It meant something different to each one of them.

In much the same way, friends of mine who went to Viet Nam were all changed
when they came home. It changed everyone. For some, the change was so
painful that they could never speak about it, and for others, the change was
a catalyst in their lives and they spoke of it incessantly.

And I believe there was actually a PBS special that documented this same
phenomenon with the astronauts, that they were never the same afterward.
When they came back, there were some who didn't know what to do with their
outer space experience. Some turned to drugs and alcohol. Others channeled
the change that occurred within them in very positive, life-affirming
projects.

One of this latter group was Dr. Edgar Mitchell, who founded the Noetic
Sciences Organization in an effort to validate the phenomenon of human
consciousness. Another astronaut undertook the search for Noah's Ark, and
actually found it embedded in the ice on Mt. Ararat, right where the Bible
said it would be. < [link to spiritofmaat.com] [1]

Wynn: So the implica! tion here is that these astronauts, because they left
the magnetic field of the earth, had some kind of spiritual awakening?

Gregg: They certainly went through a catharsis when they were no longer in
the influence of the earth's magnetic field.

We also see something similar happening when we look at the magnetic fields
of the earth. They are not constant over the surface of the earth, and
contour maps, available through United States Geologic Survey, show the
varying intensities of magnetic fields over the surface of the earth - where
magnetic fields have a very high intensity and where the intensity if very
low.

Those fields have shifted over time, and may actually account for why
populations of humans have migrated to the places they've migrated to. They
might have been following these magnetic contours.

What happens is that in the places where the magnetics are very low, where
their effects are negligible, tremendous change and innovation appear to
occur. Where the magnetics are traditionally high, those are the places of
stagnation where changes, although they do happen, take a long time and
change is very slow in coming.

If I were coming here from another world and didn't know anything about the
people of the earth, and if I were looking for a place where the opportunity
of change was the greatest, I would look for the zero contour lines. And if
you look at a map of the magnetics on earth today, what you find is that
there is a zero contour line that runs along the West Coast of North America
- along the California coast and on up off the coast of Alaska. In other
words, the magnetics along the West Coast are almost nil!

When we think of the West Coast, we think about wacky California. Well, the
truth is California is a seed, one of several, and it's traditionally been
very innovative in technology, science, fashion, finance, and the arts,
because there is an opportunity for tremendous change there.

Within North American, the flip side of that would be an area of highest
magnetics, where the magnetic fields are the most dense. And you find this
down through some of the Southeastern states - the very states that are
traditionally viewed as being conservative. This doesn't mean that change
can't happen there. What is says, however, is that change takes a long time
there, and people have to see a really good reason before they are going to
budge from what they've always done.

Wynn: So where the magnetic field is less dense, people are more open to the
moment?

Gregg: They're open to change, period. It doesn't mean that the change is
good, bad, right, or wrong. It's important to be clear about this. The
consciousness of the people will determine how that change comes about.

I'll give an ironic example. There is a zero contour line that runs right
through the Middle East. It actually runs almost directly underneath the
area we call the Suez Canal, right up into Israel, right along the coast of
the Red Sea. Yes, right in that area is a zero contour line. This means that
area is ripe for change. But again, how that change comes about - whether
it's peaceful and constructive or angry and destructive - is determined by
the consciousness of the people who live there.

Wynn: So it's not good or bad either way?

Gregg: Precisely. It simply is an opportunity for change. At the same time,
the highest magnetic contour lines noted anywhere on the planet earth have
traditionally been in portions of the former Soviet Union, Russia, and
Siberia. We know that in that part of the world, there was a system that was
in place, and while change came about, it was slow and painful, a long time
coming, with a lot of suffering. But when that change happened, there was a
cascade effect, and it happened almost overnight.

So the correlations are very interesting between human consciousness, the
opportunities for innovation, change, doing things in a new way, and the
magnetics of our world.

The Earth has many areas of high and low change.

Wynn: Our readers are going to want to know how they can best face the
changes that are coming in our world as a whole.

Gregg: I'll be as concise as I can. I think that the answer to that is
perhaps encapsulated best in the words of those who have come before us, the
ancient Essenes, in a text that's more than 2,500 years old. It reminds us
of our relationship to the world around us, and says simply that the world
around us is nothing more and nothing less than a mirror of what we have
become from within.

So when we see a world that appears angry, cruel, and thoughtless, that
produces suffering for our brothers and sisters all over the world - from
this perspective, that world is a mirror of what we have become as
individuals, families, societies, and nations. It's not right, wrong, good
or bad. It's simply a reflection of who we are. The condition of the planet
is a feedback mechanism.

So if we want to see change in our world, we must become that change in our
every day lives. If we want to see peace, tolerant understanding,
compassion, and forgiveness at the global level, we must become that. At the
dinner table. With our families. We must become that with our schools.

We must demand that we be entertained through peace, compassion, and
understanding. It doesn't have to be dull and boring. It can still be very
exciting, but it does not have to be ruthless, thoughtless, cruel, or
heartless.

So in our daily lives, every moment of every day, we make a choice that
either affirms or denies life in our bodies. Because we are linked through
this grid. Our individual choices all pool into the collective answer to our
future.

If we'd like to see a collective change, we must individually become that
change.

Wynn: We have this date of 2012 that many people are saying is this time of
global shift or Ascension. What do you think is going to happen?

Gregg The date 2012 is interesting because it comes up in Mayan traditions,
Egyptian traditions, some of the Christian traditions, and even in the Bible
Code - which is very controversial unto itself.

My sense is this date could be any date. If we focus on a date and live our
lives preparing for a change on that date, we miss life. From my
perspective, if we simply live each day of our lives to its fullest, we
reconcile the experiences that cross our paths each day, we reconcile the
opportunity to honor life, to honor our relationships with one another.

If we are honest, truthful, considerate, caring and compassionate, if we
live this each day, we have already prepared for whatever could possibly
come on 2012 or any other day, any other year, any time in our future.

I know people who are living their lives hoarding boxcars full of food and
ammunition, preparing for the day when our world changes. I understand, and
I think it's good to be self sufficient. I understand what they are saying.
But also what I've seen is that so much of their lives is dedicated to
preparing for that day, they've missed the beauty and the mystery of life
that unfolds in every day. And it's in perceiving this beauty and mystery
that we prepare for the greatest challenges!

Wynn: So basically, if one wants to approach this change with the maximum
positive outcome for themselves, the key is to live each day with the
maximum output of love, compassion, and caring?

Gregg: Yes, and to do this, we have to live each day consciously. Be aware
of the opportunities. Recognize the opportunities that cross our paths.
Every day, we're given the opportunity to be tolerant of another belief
system, to forgive someone who has hurt or angered us, to reconcile our own
judgments about what should or should not be in our world.

If we can reconcile these things as they cross our paths and consciously
deal with them in the moment, then we know we're changing the chemistry of
our bodies by changing the way we feel, and are thus preparing ourselves for
whatever transitions the earth is going to go through.

If that makes sense.

Wynn: Yes, it does to me. Is there anything really important to close with
for our readers that I might have missed?

Gregg: For the first time in our history, the fate of our species, our
entire species, rests upon the choices of a single generation. And what
we've just done is talked about what some of those choices are all about

52 Stress Busters

1. Get up fifteen minutes earlier in the morning. The inevitable morning mishaps will be less stressful.

2. Prepare for the morning the evening before. Set the breakfast table. Make lunches. Put out the clothes you plan to wear, etc.

3. Don't rely on your memory. Write down appointment times, when to pick up the laundry, when library books are due, etc. ("The palest ink is better than the most retentive memory."- Old Chinese Proverb)

4. Do nothing you have to lie about later.

5. Make copies of all keys. Bury a house key in a secret spot in the garden. Carry a duplicate car key in your wallet, apart from your key ring.

6. Practice preventive maintenance. Your car, appliances, home and relationships will be less likely to break down "at the worst possible moment."

7. Be prepared to wait. A paperback book can make a wait in a post office line almost pleasant.

8. Procrastination is stressful. Whatever you want to do tomorrow, do today; whatever you want to do today, do it now.

9. Plan ahead. Don't let the gas tank get below onequarter full, keep a well- stocked "emergency shelf'' of home staples, don't wait until you're down to your last bus token or postage stamp to buy more, etc.

10. Don't put up with something that doesn't work right. If your alarm clock wallet, shoe laces, windshield wipers-whatever-are a constant aggravation, get them fixed or get new ones.

11. Allow 15 minutes of extra time to get to appointments. Plan to arrive at an airport one hour before domestic departures.

12. Eliminate (or restrict) the amount of caffeine in your diet.

13. Always set up contingency plans, "just in case." ("If for some reason either of us is delayed, here's what we'll do..." Or, "If we get split up in the shopping center, here's where we'll meet.")

14. Relax your standards. The world will not end if the grass doesn't get mowed this weekend.

15. Pollyanna-Power! For every one thing that goes wrong, there are probably 10 or 50 or 100 blessings. Count 'em!

16. Ask questions. Taking a few moments to repeat back the directions that someone expects of you, etc., can save hours. (The old "the hurrieder I go, the behinder I get" idea.)

17. Say "No!" Saying no to extra projects, social activities and invitations you know you don't have the time or energy for takes practice, self-respect and a belief that everyone, everyday, needs quiet time to relax and to be alone.

18. Unplug your phone. Want to take a long bath, meditate, sleep or read without interruption? Drum up the courage to temporarily disconnect.

(The possibility of there being a terrible emergency in the next hour or so is almost nil.)

19. Turn "needs" into preferences. Our basic physical needs translate into food, water, and keeping warm. Everything else is a preference. Don't get attached to preferences.

20. Simplify, simplify, simplify.

21. Make friends with nonworriers. Chronic worrywarts are contagious.

22. Take many stretch breaks when you sit a lot.

23. If you can't find quiet at home, wear earplugs.

24. Get enough sleep. Set your alarm for bedtime.

25. Organize! A place for everything and everything in its place. Losing things is stressful.

26. Monitor your body for stress signs. If your stomach muscles are knotted and your breathing is shallow, relax your muscles and take some deep, slow breaths.

27. Write your thoughts and feelings down on paper. It can help you clarify and give you a renewed perspective.

28. Do this yoga exercise when you need to relax: Inhale through your nose to the count of eight. Pucker your lips and exhale slowly to the count of 16. Concentrate on the long sighing sound and feel the tension dissolve. Repeat 10 times.

29. Visualize success before any experience you fear. Take time to go over every part of the event in your mind. Imagine how great you will look, and how well you will present yourself.

30. If the stress of deadlines gets in the way of doing a job, use diversion. Take your mind off the task and you will focus better when you're on task.

31. Talk out your problems with a friend. It helps to relieve confusion.

32. Avoid people and places that don't fit your personal needs and desires. If you hate politics, don't spend time with politically excited people.

33. Learn to live one day at a time.

34. Everyday, do something you really enjoy.

35. Add an ounce of love to everything you do.

36. Take a bath or shower to relieve tension.

37. Do a favor for someone every day.

38. Focus on understanding rather than on being under stood, on loving rather than on being loved.

39. Looking good makes you feel better.

40. Take more time between tasks to relax. Schedule a realistic day.

41. Be flexible. Some things are not worth perfection.

42. Stop negative self-talk: "I'm too fat, too old, etc..."

43. Change pace on weekends. If your week was slow, be active. If you felt nothing was accomplished during the week, do a weekend project.

44. "Worry about the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves." Pay attention to the details in front of you.

45. Do one thing at a time. When you are working on one thing, don't think about everything else you have to do.

46. Allow time every day for privacy, quiet and thinking.

47. Do unpleasant tasks early and enjoy the rest of the day.

48. Delegate responsibility to capable people.

49. Take lunch breaks. Get away from your work in body and in mind.

50. Count to 1,000, not 10, before you say something that could make matters worse.

51. Forgive people and events. Accept that we live in an imperfect world.

52. Have an optimistic view of the world. Most people do the best they can.

And one extra thrown in...meditate.

The Shift Of The Ages

Are you feeling the Quickening?

Just imagine.

Spaceship earth heading towards a new journey.

If you observe the image it looks like our earth is beginning to separate into two different dimensions?

Just like an amoebae splits, one part is going into a new and higher dimension, following the concept of Unity (Service, Love and Harmony), and the other part going into a lower dimension, reflecting separateness (greed, lust, power).

If we look around us it feels as if we are still living in both worlds.
What follows are different sources that speak about a frequency shift, a separation of dimensions.

Impossible?

Why should it be impossible if everything that exists is only consciousness! And what will happens when countless people dream of a world of cooperation, love, peace, abundance, free energy, sharing, caring, giving, respecting nature and each other? On the other side people are dreaming of a future electronic controlled world society, struggling, competing, and making war within a world of illusion, of separation?

Just a thought for the year 2000 and beyond about the beauty of creation.

The dance of the electrons, planets, solar systems, star systems, galaxies and Universes.

Electrons within the atoms dancing around their suns, their centers, the protons.
Planets dancing around their centers, their solar system suns.
Solar systems dancing around their centers, their Galactic Suns,
Galactic Systems dancing around their Centers, their Universal Suns,
All the Universes dancing around their One Great Central SUN,

Just imagine;

Allthese electrons, protons, planets, suns, Solar systems, Star systems, Galactic Systems, and Universal Systems together with all their corresponding Central Suns, all yes, all Within One Universal Being.

Imagine the skies of the Northern and Southern Hemisphere and consider it as your outer skin, stretching it further and further.

Picture yourself and anyone else being within the body of this One Universal Being?

Wherever you go, whatever you do, you cannot go out, you always are within this Universal Being, your, our Source of Being. Which is always well aware and alive.

This Being IS you and you are a reflection or an eternal part of It.
How much It Loves you and all of us, no matter who we are or what we do.!

Within this Beautiful Universal Body there is a planet called Spaceship Earth.
This planet forms part of our Solar System as you know.

Let's consider some numbers now.

This Solar System as a spiral travels round the sun of our Galactic system, our Milkyway.
This journey takes about 200.000.000 years.
Within this Galactic Spiral, our Milkyway, there are as on Earth 4 seasons, each one of about 50.000.000 years. Summer, autumn, winter and spring.

From the beginning. From the gaseous beginning, through the tranformation (or evolution) of planet earth, before it became solidified with sea life, continents and continental life, it has been 3.200.000.000 years ago.

Taking into account the 200.000.000 years it takes our Solar System to travel around the Milkyway Sun, we have gone through this journey 16 times as 16x200.000.000 years makes the 3.200.000.000 years.

Wait!

We also have to calculate the seasonal changes!

Sixteen times complete turns, each turn of 200.000.000 years experiencing the 4 seasons, this makes 64 seasons of change, as 16x4 makes 64.

Where are we now?

Do you know the I Ching, The Chinese Book of Change with the 64 epochs of change? The last cycle, as it is written in the I Thing, under Hexogram NR. 64, is the time of transformation, transmutation, the ending and new beginning times.

This cycle, the last season, number 64 before entering a new layer within the Galactic Spiral, more inwards, wherein everything will be born anew, emerging with a new being, a new start, a new journey-all perfectly designed by the Universal Designer, on behalf of, and under the Guidance of our DIVINE DESIGNER, as the Ultimate Captain of the crew. And the crew is everyone, including you and me.

Welcome to the new yourney, the new year, happy beginning and we wish you all an exciting journey.
Welcome Aboard!!

The Shift of the Ages has already begun!

Ancient prophecies predicted it.
Indigenous traditions honor it.

Changes within the Earth are affecting your sleep patterns, relationships, the ability to regulate your immune system and your perception of time. You are living a process of initiation that was demonstrated over 2,000 years ago, preparing you to accept tremendous change within your body.

That change is happening now.
* Migraine headaches, tiredness
* Electrical sensations in the limbs and spinal column
* Cramps in the muscular networks
* Flu like symptoms
* Intense dreams.
These could all be caused by the changes taking place on Earth now!

* The human body will become more sensitive as a result of the new vibrations.

* The resonance of Earth (Schumann Resonance) has been 7.8Hz for thousands of years.
Since 1980 it has risen to over 12Hz. This means that 16 hours now equate to a 24 hour day. Time is speeding up!

* The physical body has already begun to change. A new light body is being created.

* Our DNA is being re-programmed from the Universe (as predicted in the Mayan Prophecy).
We are going from 2 strand back to 12 strand DNA.

* Greater intuitive and healing abilities will emerge. Each year these will increase 10 fold.

* Eyes will become cat like in order to adjust to the new atmosphere and light.

* All children born after 1998 will probably be telepathic at birth.

Shuman Resonance

Zero Point & Shumann Resonance Gregg Braden is currently traveling around the United States and in the media, telling of the scientific proof of the Earth passing through the Photon Belt and the slowing of the Earths rotation.

At the same time there is an increase in the resonant frequency of the Earth (Schumann Resonance). When the Earth stops its rotation and the resonance frequency reaches 13 cycles we will be at a zero point magnetic field.

The Earth will be stopped, and in 2 or 3 days it will start turning again in the opposite direction. This will produce a reversal in the magnetic fields around the earth and so forth. Geophysical Condition #1: Earth's Rising Base Frequency Earth's background base frequency, or "heartbeat," (called Schumann Resonance, or SR) is rising dramatically.

Though it varies among geographical regions, for decades the overall measurement was 7.8 cycles per second. This was once thought to be a constant; global military communications developed on this frequency. Recent reports set the rate at over 11 cycles, and climbing.

Science doesn't know why, or what to make of it. Gregg Braden found data collected by Norwegian and Russian researchers on this; it's not widely reported in the U.S. (The only reference to SR to be found in the Seattle Library reference section, is tied to the weather.

Science acknowledges SR as a sensitive indicator of temperature variations and worldwide weather conditions. Braden believes the fluctuating SR may be a >factor in the severe storms, floods, and weather of recent years.)

Geophysical Condition #2:

Earth's Diminishing Magnetic Field While earth's "pulse" rate is rising, her magnetic field strength, on the other hand, is declining. According to Professor Bannerjee of the University of New Mexico, the field has lost up to half its intensity in the last 4,000 years. And because a forerunner of magnetic polar reversals is this field strength, Prof. Bannerjee believes that another reversal is due.

Braden believes that because these cyclical Shifts are associated with reversals, Earth's geological record indicating magnetic reversals also marks previous Shifts in history. And, within the enormous time scale represented, there were quite a few of them.

What is a Schumann Resonance?

Believe it or not, the Earth behaves like an enormous electric circuit.
The atmosphere is actually a weak conductor and if there were no sources of charge, its existing electric charge would diffuse away in about 10 minutes. There is a 'cavity 'defined by the surface of the Earth and the inner edge of the ionosphere 55 kilometers up. At any moment, the total chargeresiding in this cavity is 500,000 Coulombs.

There is a vertical current flow between the ground and the ionosphere of 1 - 3 x 10^-12 Amperes per square meter. The resistance of the atmosphere is 200 Ohms. The voltage potential is 200,000 Volts. There are about 1000 lightning storms at any given moment worldwide. Each produces 0.5 to 1 Ampere and these collectively account for the measured current flow in the Earth's 'electromagnetic' cavity.

The Schumann Resonances are quasi standing wave electromagnetic waves that exist in this cavity. Like waves on a spring, they are not presentall the time, but have to be 'excited' to be observed. They are not caused by anything internal to the Earth, its crust or its core. They seem to be related to electrical activity in the atmosphere, particularly during times of intense lightning activity.

They occur at several frequencies between 6 and 50 cycles per second; specifically 7.8, 14, 20, 26, 33, 39 and 45 Hertz, with a daily variation of about +/- 0.5 Hertz. So long as the properties of Earth's electromagnetic cavity remains about the same, these frequencies remain the same. Presumably there is some change due to the solar sunspot cycle as the Earth's ionosphere changes in response to the 11-year cycle of solar activity.

Schumann resonances are most easily seen between 2000 and 2200 UT. Given that the earth's atmosphere carries a charge, a current and a voltage, it is not surprising to find such electromagnetic waves. The resonant properties of this terrestrial cavity were first predicted by the German physicist W.O. Schumann between 1952 and 1957, and first detected by Schumann and Konig in 1954.

The first spectral representation of this phenomenon was prepared by Balser and Wagner in 1960. Much of the research in the last 20 years has been conducted by the Department of the Navy who investigate Extremely Low Frequency communication with submarines.

For more information, see: "Handbook of Atmospheric Electrodynamics, vol. I", by Hans Volland, 1995 published by the CRC Press. Chapter 11 is entirely on Schumann Resonances and is written by Davis Campbell at the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska, Fairbanks AK, 99775.
There is also a history of this research and an extensive bibliography.

POSSIBLE OUTCOMES

1. Time will appear to speed up as we approach Zero Point. A 24 hour day will seem to about 16 hours or less. Remember the Schumann Resonance (or "heart beat" of Mother Earth) has been 7.8 cycles for thousands of years, but has been rising since 1980. It is at about 12 cycles at present. It stops at 13 cycles.

2. Zero Point or the Shift of the Ages has been predicted by ancient peoples for thousands of years. There have been many shifts including the one that always occurs every 13,000 years at each half of the 26,000 year, Procession of the Equinox.

3. Zero Point or a flip of the magnetic poles will probably happen soon, within the next few years. It could possibly synchronise with the Earth's four cycle biorhythm that occurs every 20 years on the 12th of August. The next occurance is 12th August 2003. The Philadelphia Experiment and Montauk Project (secret military time travelling) both locked up to the 12th August/20 year biorhythm.

4. It is said that after Zero Point the Sun will rise in the west and set in the east, approx. Past occurances of this change have been found in ancient records.

5. Interestingly, the New World Order plan to be in power by 2003. This may or may not happen, depending on many factors and agendas. Stay centred and follow your intuition.

6. The Zero Point flip will probably introduce us to the 4th dimension. Here, everything we think or desire will instantly manifest. This includes love and fear. Our INTENTION will be of utmost importance.

7. Most technology that we know will cease to operate. Possible exceptions could be technology based on so called "Zero Point" or free energy.

8. Our physical body is changing as we approach Zero Point. Our DNA is being "upgraded" to 12 strand. A new light body is being created. We are becoming more intuitive.

9. The Mayan Calendar predicted all the changes that are occurring now. They say we are going beyond technology and back to the natural cycles of nature and the Universe. By 2012 we will have entered the 5th Dimension (after the flip to the 4th Dimension at Zero Point).

10. All this information is not fearful. Be prepared for changes that will bring in the new age of light. We are going beyond money and time where fear based concepts are totally dissolved.
From 2012 (The Shift of the Ages has begun)

The Photon Band and the process of Transmutation

The photon band is a quantum (smallest particle) of electromagnetic energy with zero mass-no electrical charge and an indefinitely long life time. This photon band was first discovered in 1961 by means of satellite borne instruments. About every 26.000 years our Earth travels twice through this higher frequency band, affecting the material world and our consciousness. In 1987 our Earth entered for the first time again in this band and every year she is moving in-and out with each year staying longer in this higher frequency band, as our solar system is travelling through this particular area within our Milky Way Galaxy.

In December 2012 , according to Maya calculations, our sun and Earth will be within this band, without leaving again into the Galactic night. It is the date when the Maya calendar ends and a new world begins. Mayor cycles are closing at the same time; one of 26.000 years, one of 104.000 years, and one of 225.000.000 years, giving birth to new species and a new Heaven and Earth. In December 1998 our sun entered for the first time again in this photonic band and has been prepared to adjust to this higher frequency.

All what is happening outside is also happening inside of us. We are adjusting internally on a cellular level to the external change which is experiencing our solar system, and including our Earth. For more detailed information and better understanding please read "The Pleiadian Agenda, a New Cosmology of Light" written by Barbara Hand Clow. (ISBN 1-870181-30-4) or download your "Dreamspell Calendar" by Gary M. Cook from the Tzolkin Group and observe and calculate how our Earth is travelling through this band. The Handbook for the New Paradigm

The Handbook for the New Paradigm is composed of several volumes of messages telepathically received from an advanced Ultra-Dimensional race. Because the communication was direct, unlike channeled information, there was no need for subjective "interpretation", nor is the presentation of the information subject to the distortion of personal belief systems of anyone on the planet. The material, presented now in 1999, is intended to lift mankind from the entrapment of the victim consciousness that keeps the level of human experience ensnared in fear and frustration. Humanity was intended to live, not in luxury, but in abundance. The information found here, as well in the several subsequent volumes you can order, will lead all that read it with

The Dimensional Change; How does that fit in? (Revelations Awareness)

This is a kind of a dimensional shift rather that an end of the world, and it will take place very gradually over a period of years. The action has already begun, nut it will continue for many years. By 2013 it should be a point of separation, whereby the separation begins or occurs in such a way as to break off the negative vibrations from those of the positive levels, so that entities following the positive vibrations will arise spiritually during those proceeding years, and those who are attached to the negative vibrations will find themselves growing more and more aware of a world that is becoming even more negative in its expression.
The Dimensional Change: How Does this Fit in?

About Transmutation (from the Cosmic Instruction Manual)

Transmutation is not to be confused with transformation. This world had to go through thousands of years of transforming before it was in a position to transmute. That cycle of transformation is now complete, and the transmutative cycle has begun. Transmutation is a genetic change at the cellular level, which is now in process for all life forms on this planet. The Earth, who is a living conscious, has made her decision, determined her course, and begun her dimensional shift. Subsequently, all planetary life is being prepared for this event through the cellular transmutational process.

This is a birth process which will deliver this planet and all participating life forms into the fifth dimension. Cellular transmutation is not something you may choose to do if it interests you, like taking up golf. It is something that is happening and that you chose to do before you got here; otherwise you wouldn't be here. Although you have no genetic option in this matter, you still have free will. You can willingly assist this procedure and transmute this planetary sphere, or you can resist the procedure and become, as some members of our planetary transition teams like to say, "crispy critters". Therefore it is better to think twice before you change your mind.
The Cosmic Instruction Manual

Positive Thought Waves For Peace "May Peace Prevail On Earth"

By World Peace Prayer Society Founder Masahisa Goi (1916-1980)

The thought of all humankind are circulating all around us, but only the portions which we are "dialing", or intentionally creating ourselves, will effect or show themselves in our personal destiny and that of others. Therefore, if the thoughts you emit are waves of hatred and struggle, those waves will influence many people in the world who have similar thought waves.

On the other hand, if your thoughts are bright waves of love and good will, many people will be unconsciously purified by them. If you pursue the logic of this principle, you will realize that even the smallest thought activity cannot be neglected: its effects will surely come back to the individual, while at the same time influencing humankind in general. It is on this basis of this truth that I am saying that we will never have world peace until both humankind and the individual are simultaneously uplifted by being set free from negative thought waves.

It is illogical to talk about world peace or disliking war on a planetary basis without addressing the subject of each individual's thought patterns and considering what kind of thinking would be most beneficial. If one dislikes war, before undertaking any action one has to try to keep one's own thought turned to peace and harmony.

Ancient Herbal Medicine For Today

A few years ago, Eric Buenz came across a 17th century book on herbal medicine.

And he wondered if its ancient folk wisdom could withstand a little scientific scrutiny.

So Buenz, then a graduate student at the Mayo Clinic, and a colleague decided to test a tree extract that the book claimed could cure diarrhea.

What they found was that the potion, made from the nuts of the atun tree, works a lot like an antibiotic, killing various types of bacteria.

And in a report in the British Medical Journal this month, they explain how a 300-year-old text by a Dutch naturalist named Rumphius could help scientists in their search for new and better drugs.

"It was lost traditional knowledge," Buenz said.

Buenz, 29, traveled to Samoa to collect the nuts and consult with shamans. "And we tested it and it worked."

Mayo and the scientists have obtained a patent on the medicinal properties of the atun tree nut, in hopes someone might develop it into a drug.

"Our findings," they wrote in the journal, "show that potential drugs can be identified by searching historical herbal texts."

In a way it's not surprising, because many prescription drugs come from natural substances, said Dr. Brent Bauer, one of the co-authors and director of the Mayo Clinic's complementary and integrative medicine program.

"There's a reason why they chose the plants they did, why they prepared them the way they did," he said of traditional healers. "The fact that we can somewhat validate ancient knowledge is cool because a lot of this ancient knowledge is disappearing."

In this case, the "ancient knowledge" probably would have disappeared if not for the dogged persistence of Georg Everhard Rumphius, a mercenary with the Dutch East India Company, whose story is recounted in the Dec. 23 British Medical Journal article.

In 1657, he started collecting plants on the Indonesian island of Ambon and recording their medicinal uses in a text that he illustrated himself. Thirty years later, his manuscripts burned in a fire.

"At that point I'd be reaching for the Prozac or something," Bauer said. "He goes back and just starts writing it all over again."

Rumphius, who was then blind, dictated the second manuscript and commissioned new illustrations. But this, too, was destroyed when the ship transporting the book to Holland was sunk by the French navy.

Rather than "surrender to despair," the authors note, he reworked his surviving notes and completed seven volumes of the book, called Ambonese Herbal.

Fast forward to the 21st century: The surviving copies were essentially gathering dust in rare-book collections until a Dutch-language professor decided to translate part of the text into English.

And Buenz stumbled onto the translation at a botanical library in Hawaii.

Buenz, a scientist who had studied folk medicine while on a fellowship in Samoa, was fascinated.

He and Bauer searched the Rumphius text for references to herbal medicines, and compared them to a database of known medicinal plants. The atun nut/diarrhea treatment was a new one, so they decided to test it.

Buenz, who now owns his own research company called BioSciential in Rochester, returned to Samoa, where healers use the nut to make a sweet-smelling massage oil for sore muscles _ "an historic Bengay," he said, laughing.

He returned to the United States with the nut, ground it up and mixed it with alcohol. In the lab, it killed two types of bacteria, Staphylococcus and Enterococcus (but didn't touch the E. coli).

For now, they don't know if it will work beyond the test tube. "That's the million-dollar question," Bauer said.

If anything ever comes of it, he added, they would share the profits with the native healers who helped them.

But the larger message, he said, is that there may be more to learn from the ancients.

"It should keep us somewhat humble," he said.

The Path Of Enlightenment

It is not always easy to walk the path of enlightenment. Those who tell you that it is are promoting illusions and know not of what they speak. A real master will give you a real reflection. These realities take some time to get accustomed too. As Osho and Shab say, enlightenment is instant…in fact it is already the case, but with the Minds we carry around, there will be some serious issues to deal with in bringing everything into alignment. The insights go on and on. If you are looking for a cessation of realization and a place to rest, it is best to go back to sleep and enjoy the bliss of ignorance.

Once you hear the call of truth, nothing will ever be the same. Though the Mind will again and again seek to coax you back into the shadows, stay strong in your practice. The journey is arduous, but there are many rewards along the way. The most important of which, is that whatever you find is truly yours. Those who accept ready made answers and simple systems rob themselves of everything that is most precious in life. Anyone who attempts to convince you of trite solutions to profound questions is not a friend. A friend takes responsibility for the truth and tells it to you unembellished.

As you dig deeper and deeper, you will be amazed. The mystery keeps getting more involved and the intricacies of who you are begin to be revealed. First you unravel this life…the pains and programs. You feel a freedom that previously was not even conceived of as being possible. This is only available if you get some space from the Mind and use provocations as a call to awareness instead of an excuse to take something personally and react. This is an intense discipline. You must realize that it is in your own best interest to dismantle the Ego, for it is the only way to truly make room for the Heart.

Just wait until your past lives start floating to the surface. Can you handle re-experiencing your own murder? How about being a slave, a prisoner, or feeling the loneliness of a tyrant? We have played many, many roles and to remember we have to get distance from the details, otherwise it will overwhelm us. After all, many have a hard time simply coping with this life and our current action’s consequences. Seeing the grander scope of our soul’s travels, we will see longer term lessons that have followed us all along. When we recover consciousness, we can finish a multitude of karmic cycles.

This is not all. We are still closer to the beginning than the end. This just brings us to who we are and what we are doing here and does not even yet get into the cosmic secrets and mysteries being whispered from one star to the next throughout the vastness of space. Some of us come from the Earth, so the plethora of lives here will be their main experience, but many of us come from other star systems. In these places, we have different bodies and exist on other planes of existence. We have many friends throughout the universe who are waiting to say hello.

Mind Over Matter Experiment

World’s Largest Mind Over Matter Experiment
Top scientists team up with author to create the world’s largest ever mind-over-matter experiment.

Can our thoughts influence the world around us? This extraordinary possibility is being tested throughout 2007 in a series of mind-over-matter experiments that are being monitored by leading physicists.

Tens of thousands of volunteers from around the world are being recruited to participate in a series of web-based experiments, making it the largest mind-over-matter study in history.

The experiments are the brain-child of science writer Lynne McTaggart, whose new book The Intention Experiment forms the catalyst for the trials. The book is published in the New Year in the US, (Simon & Schuster) the UK (Harper Collins) and The Netherlands (Ankh-Hermes).

Working with her are leading physicists and psychologists from the University of Arizona, Princeton University, the International Institute of Biophysics and the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

The first large-scale studies are being prepared by Dr. Gary Schwartz, psychologist and director of America’s National Institutes of Medicine-funded Center for Frontier Medicine in Biofield Science at the University of Arizona.

Besides Schwartz, other scientists working in the consortium include: German physicist Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp of the International Institute of Biophysics in Neuss, Germany; Dr. Robert Jahn and Brenda Dunne of the International Consciousness Research Laboratory, formerly of Princeton University; and Drs Marilyn Schlitz and Dean Radin of the Institute of Noetic Sciences in California.

Through the Intention Experiment website (www.theintentionexperiment.com), readers of McTaggart’s new book are invited to participate in an unprecedented experiment: to test the power of their thoughts.

The study will conduct periodic large-scale experiments to determine whether the focused intention of its readers has an effect on scientifically quantifiable targets in various laboratories around the globe - a specific living thing or a population where change caused by group intention can be measured.

Website specialists working with the scientists through the website will coordinate reader involvement and track results.

A pilot experiment, testing the idea and detailed in the book, was successful. McTaggart asked a group of 16 meditators based in London to direct their thoughts to four remote targets in Dr. Popp’s laboratory in Germany: two types of algae, a plant and a human volunteer. The meditators were asked to attempt to lower certain measurable biodynamic processes.

Popp and his team discovered significant changes in all four targets while the intentions were being sent, compared to times the meditators were ‘resting.’

Schwartz and McTaggart are preparing the target for the first intention experiment target, an enclosed ‘mini-Gaia’ with an artificially raised temperature. The plan is to ask the readers to attempt to lower it at a particular moment through focused ‘intention.’

“If we’re successful the implications would be amazing,” says Schwartz. “It would suggest that our collective human consciousness can actually do something about global warming.”

In the course of her research into her earlier book, The Field, McTaggart uncovered literally hundreds of scientific studies carried out by reputable frontier scientists, which suggested that consciousness, under certain circumstances, has the capacity to change physical matter.

These studies, all published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, showed evidence that directing thoughts at a target is capable of altering machines, cells and, indeed, entire multicelled organisms like human beings.

The ongoing experiments will solely focus on philanthropic targets. Other possibilities being discussed by the scientific consortium include using a child with Attention Deficit Disorder or an adult with Alzheimer’s disease.

One eventual target could be determining whether focused group intention will enable wounds to heal more quickly than usual. It is known and accepted that wounds generally heal at a particular, quantifiable rate with a precise pattern. Any departure from the norm can be precisely measured and shown to be an experimental effect.

The global Intention Experiment laboratory is to be entirely self-funded. The website and all the experiments will be funded by the proceeds of the book or grants, now and in the future.

McTaggart stresses that she cannot guarantee that the big experiments will work - at first or ever. “As scientists and objective researchers, we will be duty-bound to faithfully report the data we have. But what’s most important is just being willing to ask the questions,” says McTaggart. “That’s what real science is, and that’s what we’re doing with the Intention Experiments. Just being unafraid to ask what seems like a outrageous question.”

The Intention Experiment, published by Free Press, Simon & Schuster in the US (HarperCollins in the UK), is the first book firmly grounded in science that explains how human thoughts and intentions are an actual physical something.

The Intention Experiment builds on the discoveries of McTaggart’s first book, international bestseller The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe, The Field, which documented discoveries that point to the existence of a quantum energy field holding everything - including each one of us - in its invisible web.

The Field was lauded around the world, by notables such Sir Arthur C. Clarke and Dr. Wayne Dyer, as the first book to synthesize all the discoveries from frontier quantum physicists about the nature of consciousness into a unified theory, comprehensive to the ordinary layman. Dyer called it “the most profound and enlightening book I have ever read.”

Olive Oil May Reduce Cancer Risk

Diets rich in olive oil can help prevent cell damage that leads to cancer, study suggests
by Ben Kage

(NewsTarget) Diets that have plenty of olive oil may be helping prevent body cell damage that can lead to cancer, suggests a study by researchers in Denmark.
Researchers from Copenhagen University Hospital looked at 182 men between the ages of 20 and 60, hailing from five European countries, for two weeks. During that time, the men consumed one-quarter cup of olive oil a day, and showed an average 13 percent reduction in 8oxodG, a marker of oxidative damage to DNA cells.

This damage is usually caused when reactive oxygen species -- metabolism byproducts -- overcome the body's antioxidant defenses. While olive oil is known to contain phenols, which are believed to be powerful antioxidants, they do not account for the drop in oxidative damage to DNA, said study co-author Dr. Henrick E. Poulsen and colleagues. The men consumed olive oils with varying levels of phenols, but the oxidative damage was reduced regardless of these levels.

The study results -- reported in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology's The FASEB Journal -- seem to suggest that the monosaturated fats found in olive oil are more likely causing the beneficial effect, the scientists said.

The study participants from Northern Europe showed higher 8oxodG levels than their Southern European counterparts, which could account for the fact that, in the past, men from Northern Europe have been found to have higher rates of cancer than men in Southern Europe, where the olive-oil-rich "Mediterranean diet" is a staple. In fact, the scientists reported, Northern Europeans generally have higher levels certain cancers, including breast, colon, ovarian and prostate cancers.

Poulsen said the evidence supports advice that suggests replacing saturated fats from meats and butter with vegetable fats such as olive oil. However, he was quick to point out that olive oil was just one part of the Mediterranean diet, which is also rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fish. He added that olive oil's benefits notwithstanding, it was not a replacement for calorie control and regular exercise.

The Hermetic Universe

The Hermetic Universe

By Michael Hayes

Ever since my formative years, when I first began to think in concepts, I have always been confounded by the mystery of human existence. By and large we all tend to take this consciousness of ours for granted, but for me it has always been a source of wonder. Equally perplexing is that ultimate question in life: death – that future happening looming over the horizon of all of our lives like some conceptual black hole. What, one wonders, is the purpose in the unending cycle of the genesis and inevitable destruction of all of us? Why are millions of sentient beings all over our planet created, only to starve or be slaughtered wholesale, many without ever having been given the opportunity to fulfil themselves?

On the wider scale of evolution, we see evidence in palaeontological and fossil records, of the emergence and subsequent violent extinction of whole races of people and species of animal. These entities come and go with alarming regularity. But to what avail?

In the greater universe also, existence is no less capricious, with the continuous formation and devastating destruction of planets, stars – even entire galaxies. And who knows what countless other life-forms out there are being indiscriminately annihilated in this way? Just normal, everyday occurrences – but these inviolable and often disturbingly violent events have persistently gnawed at my reason. Why, I ask myself, would the theologians all-wise and all-knowing Benefactor – if he exists – create such a myriad of wonderful forms and then turn round and simply destroy them? These endless cycles of life and death, creation and destruction – what kind of devilment is this?

The ongoing debate over the possible existence and modus operendi of a conscious, all-knowing creator proceeds unabated, with contributors from all disciplines lining up to have their say. However, owing to a specific sequence of events which led me on a solitary quest which was to last nearly fifteen years, I believe I have found a way of understanding what might really be going on in and around us. And ultimately, if I am right, the future looks not all bad. What is more, in this particular scheme of things, God is tangible, very much alive, and undeniably omnipresent.

Strange as this may seem, this whole scenario can all be explained with numbers.

Introducing the Hermetic Code

The theory in question centres on a familiar numerical symbol: 22/7. This is pi of course, a unique mathematical convention whose discovery is generally attributed to the Greeks, but which in fact expresses a symmetry that was recognised as far back as the time of the Egyptians of the Old Kingdom.

It is now generally accepted by all but the most hardened sceptic that the classical pi ratio – 22/7, or 3.142857 etc. – is incorporated in the dimensions and proportions of the Great Pyramid. That the Egyptians knew of this value is further substantiated by a key piece of non-pyramidal evidence. This appears in the form of a royal decree, one of the most important administrative documents of the Old Kingdom, which appoints the high priest and Grand Vizier Shemaj Director of Upper Egypt. This document officially places all twenty-two nomes (districts) under his authority, enumerating them from first to last. Some time later the pharaoh appoints to the post of deputy the overseer vizier j, who seems to be the son of the same Shemaj. But then comes the most interesting part of this ancient decree, which states that the son's jurisdiction, as deputy, extends to only seven nomes. The symbolism is obvious: father over son, twenty-two over seven: pi.

Most people are aware that pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. However this ratio exists separate from circles as well. It resonates in and around us and is the answer to innumerable maths puzzles. It is intrinsic to the solutions of probability and statistical questions; and it is part of how we interpret phenomena as varied as the structure of atoms to the motion of stars. Is it not remarkable, therefore, given its uniqueness and sophistication, that the ancient Egyptians incorporated this symmetry, not only in the proportions and dimensions of what is undoubtedly one of the most impressive pieces of architecture of the ancient world, but also as a basic model for the conduct and interactions of their high priests?

Now, apart from geometry and the solving of probability and statistical questions, there is another, much more important aspect of the pi convention. This is its musical conformity. 22/7 is in fact an expression of three consecutive octaves of resonance. An octave, as everyone knows, comprises seven fundamental notes: Do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti. The eighth note, Do, a repeat of the first but with double the pitch frequency, is the first note of the second octave. Accordingly the eighth note of the second octave – again, Do – is the first note of the third. Taken together these three octaves contain twenty-two notes.

What we have here, in fact, is a symbolic embodiment of the two most fundamental laws of nature, namely, the ubiquitous law of three forces (active-passive-neutral), and the lesser-known but equally all-embracing law of octaves. The law of three forces, as we shall see, is the absolute mainstay of all creative processes, whose influence manifests practically everywhere. The second law, the law of octaves, tells us that all phenomena generated by these three primordial forces are essentially musically structured. To sensibly visualise this concept, we need to look at the formula pi when expressed musically, like so:

Do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-Do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-Do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-Do.

This configuration expresses in exact scientific terms everything you need to know to understand the General Theory of just about Everything. All one need do to appreciate this is to remember the key musical numbers incorporated within it. These are: 3, 4, 7, 8, 22, and 64. Three, the number of the Trinity, is the number of octaves encoded in pi. Four is the number of base-notes (Dos) in three consecutive octaves. Seven is the number of intervals between the notes of the major scale. Eight is the number of individual notes in the major scale. Twenty-two is the number of notes in three consecutive scales or octaves. And, according to the law of three forces, the three octaves incorporated in pi are each sub-divisible into three octaves apiece, giving an inner formula of nine octaves, or sixty-four notes. So eight is the constant, and sixty-four, is the square of it.

So much for the maths. You don't need to be an Einstein to venture further, although it is worth noting the most famous scientific equation of all time – e=mc2 – was formulated to verify this great scientist's Special Theory of Relativity, which states that e, the latent nuclear energy contained in any given element, is equal to m, the mass of the thing, multiplied by c2, the square of the constant speed of light. As we shall see, the square of the constant occurs time and again throughout the whole of nature.

I have called this musical pattern of symmetry the Hermetic Code, after the Greek god of wisdom and patron of alchemy Hermes Trismegistus, known as the god Thoth, in Old Kingdom Egypt. As noted previously, it was in ancient Egypt where the pi symmetry first came to light, both in its most famous piece of architecture the Great Pyramid – and also in extant administrative documents of the Old Kingdom.

The law of three expressed in the Hermetic Code can be recognised by anyone. Nothing in this universe can be created without the combined action of the three forces described by it: active, passive and neutral. The three main constituents of atoms – protons, electrons and neutrons – the triplet-codon templates of the genetic code, the three pin plug, two opposing teams and a neutral referee, the three primary colours of the spectrum of light, the tripart social and political arenas, two chemical compounds and an intermediary catalyst – all of these trinities exist and interact as a direct result of the three fundamental forces described by the first law of nature. Whenever and wherever something is created, these three forces will inevitably be there.

The second law – the law of octaves – also operates throughout the entire universe. For example, the atomic scale of matter described by the periodic table of elements in chemistry conforms to this law precisely. Based on the atomic weight of a given substance, the table begins at its apex with hydrogen, the lightest of all elements, which has just one electron tracing a specific orbit, or period, around the nucleus. The heavier the element, the more electrons it hosts, and the more periods are needed to accommodate them. The table culminates with substances like curium, one of the densest of radioactive elements. The curium atom consists of ninety-six electrons, which between them trace a total of seven periods around the nucleus precisely the number of periods, or intervals, between the fundamental notes of the major musical scale. The eighth, transcendental note of this atomic scale is the whole phenomenon, all atoms combined.

There is also a current method of classification in nuclear physics called the theory of quantum chromodynamics, which indicates that, beneath the atomic scale, in the world of subatomic quanta, there are also distinct musical symmetries. The American physicist Murray Gell-Man noted that the categories of particle-molecules known as baryons, mesons and pions always combine together in families of eight, which he called octets – hence his name for the system: the eightfold way. Further, each of the eight particles in an octet is a triplet made up of three smaller particles, which Gell-Man called quarks. Three quarks to each particle, eight particles to each octet – an altogether familiar pattern. And then we have the hermetic structure of light, with its three primary colours, the seven fundamental colours of the spectrum and the final eighth note, the product of all seven colours when spun together – the white ray.

Whilst still on the subject of theoretical physics, significantly the number sixty-four, the square of the musical constant, has surfaced in superstring theory, which describes all particles in the universe as infinitesimally small strings made of a kind of vibrational energy. You really cannot get more conceptually obscure than superstring theory, with its eleven different dimensions (three spacial, one temporal, and seven others of increasingly acute curvature), and a system of higher mathematics guaranteed to give the layman a form of intellectual vertigo. But no matter, all we need to know here is that this incredibly complicated system holds that there are eight degrees of manifestation or modes of movement inherent within the string itself. Moreover, in order to account for the four-dimensional structure of classical space-time geometry, the superstring theory is further developed through calculating the formulation of the string in four dimensions, the mathematics of which apparently produces precisely sixty-four specific degrees of movement associated with it. The detailed mechanics of this theory involves a language all of its own, inaccessible to the general reader, myself included. The point is – and any lay observer can see this – even the most complex and advanced mathematical formulae of present-day scientific thought, taken as symbols, reflect virtually every aspect, every nuance, of the original Hermetic Code.

As well as the microcosmic music of the underworld, there is also a cosmic aspect of the Hermetic Code. This is dramatically reflected, not only in the musical symmetry of light itself, but also in the movements of major planets in relation to the Sun, many of which, as I explain in my book High Priests, Quantum Genes, beat out endlessly repeating intervals developing in time, which exactly conform to the relative values of the fundamental notes of the major scale. Ergo, the music of the spheres is not simply legend, but fact.

Perhaps most crucial of all aspects of the Hermetic Code is that it actually resonates throughout the entire organic world. Probably most of you will have heard of the genetic code, a chemical arrangement used by the DNA in the cells of your body to manufacture amino acids, the building blocks of all organic life. In the genetic code there are four kinds of fundamental chemical bases: adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine. In this respect it is significant there are exactly four base-notes, four Dos, in the triple-octave of resonance described by pi. It takes three of these bases to make what is known as a triplet-codon, an amino acid template, of which there are precisely sixty-four variations. Each of these codons correspond to one or another of twenty-two more complex components, namely, the twenty amino acids and two further coded instructions for starting and stopping the process of protein synthesis.

All this, therefore, is crystallised music, composed by nature from units and sub-units of the constant number eight and its natural multiple, the square of the constant, sixty four. This same universal harmony is also reflected in the ever present number seven of course, which again, as we see from the periodic table, is prevalent throughout the whole of nature. This is simply because it, too, is an expression of the law of octaves, which describes eight fundamental notes, but with seven intervals between.

So the General Theory of just about Everything is described in its entirety by the Hermetic Code, an exact blueprint, not only of the underlying structure of the physical universe, but also of the genetic code, of the DNA molecule, of life itself. This unique evolutionary concept has been in existence at least since the time of Old Kingdom Egypt. And, remarkably, the symmetry it describes is currently resonating through the entire spectrum of modern scientific enquiry. How strange is that? Well, not quite so strange, for the seeds of science were sown long ago, as we shall see when we go back in time. Consider this:

In the symbolism of every major religion and belief system in history, the key numbers of the Hermetic Code are paramount. Without exception, these immensely powerful religious doctrines are all exact copies of the original blueprint. To briefly illustrate this, we need only to focus on the two key numbers of the octave: eight (the notes) and seven (the intervals between).

In ancient Egypt, where the Hermetic Code first came to light, the people revered a pantheon of eight principal gods. There were three main theologies in the Old Kingdom: Hermopolitan, Memphite and Heliopolitan, and in all of them the octave format formed the basic blueprint.

In China, in the third millennium BCE, the legendary sage Fu Hsi introduced a belief-system which was subsequently condensed into a book we today know as the I-Ching, whose chapters were numbered using a combination of eight three line symbols called trigrams. Confucius, who later added commentaries to this enigmatic book, subsequently introduced a system of instruction known as the Eight Steps of Learning.

The body of writings known as the Vedas of Indian tradition described the nature of reality as being supported by a system of proofs, of which there were considered to be eight fundamental types. Reminiscent of this also are the systems of the Buddha, with his Eightfold Path, and the Persian Zoroaster, with his pantheon of eight Bounteous Immortals. Pythagoras, as we know, reinvented his own take on this oldest of sciences by working out the precise mathematics of the octave. In the Book of Genesis of Mosaic tradition, we read that God worked for six days, rested on the seventh, presumably starting over again on the eighth. Later still, Jesus Christ acted out possibly the greatest musical performance of all time through the Passion, which began on Palm Sunday and ended, seven days later, on the Sunday of the Resurrection. Finally we have Mohammad, last of the great revelationists, whose famous night journey began at the sacred site of the furthest mosque (The Dome of the Rock Temple in Jerusalem – the first note), and continued up through the seven heavens.

The number seven, or the septenary principle, is equally ubiquitous in the annals of human tradition.

It first appears in the customs of the Neanderthal race as far back as 75,000 BCE. In a cave at Drachenloch in the Swiss Alps, a known bear-hunter site, there was discovered an altar in which were enshrined seven bear skulls, each with their muzzles pointing toward the entrance.

The Hindus regarded the constellation of the Great Bear (our Plough), as the heavenly home of the Septarishi, an embodiment of the seven Rishis (properties) applicable to the whole of nature. Their land had seven peninsulas, seven islands, seven rivers, seven seas and seven mountains.

Another key number of the Hermetic Code, as noted earlier, is the number sixty-four, the square of the constant. This, too, is a vital component of many major religious and esoteric traditions. We have already noted this number is intrinsic to the pi convention, whose encoded triple-octave is further subdivisible into nine inner octaves – sixty-four notes. The Greeks recognised an Egyptian number system known as the Magic Square of Mercury, defined by the number 2080, which is the sum of all the numbers from one to sixty-four. Mercury, of course, is a Romanised version of Hermes/Thoth, the Egyptian messenger of the gods.

In the time of the Buddha it was customary for the nobility to consult a council of sixty-four Brahmins on matters of supreme importance. The ancient game of chess, whose true origins are the subject of endless debate and whose strategic possibilities are seemingly endless, is played on a board comprising sixty-four squares. The Tarot pack, with its fifty-six minor arcana cards also includes a major arcana of twenty-two cards. This major arcana, a triple-octave on one scale, must also, according to the law of three forces, be a single octave on another scale. If we add this greater single octave onto the minor arcana figure, we end up with a total of sixty-four notes. And again, in the Koran, there is a crucial chapter on the sacred light of Allah – chapter sixty-four.

So, what does all this mean? It means many things, whose separate conceptual strands all lead us back to the same hermetic blueprint. It means that the Hermetic Code, the design plan for everything existing – particles, cosmic concentrations, living cells – is applicable literally everywhere, not only in the wider universe, but also, as we see from esoteric traditions going back over centuries and millennia, in the ephemeral realms of the collective human psyche. It tells us that, if everything is music, then everything is hermetic, genetic, alive. There is an ancient dictum attributed to the Egyptian god Thoth which sums up this idea perfectly: As above, so below. The message is clear: man below and the universe above, as stated so emphatically in Genesis, are made in the same image. Everyone, quite literally, is a miniature universe. And expansion is the natural course of things.

And so, if hermetic is genetic, this means the whole universe itself is alive, it is a living organism of infinite size. So if you are looking for a god, we have here a candidate that outshines all of the ill-defined, abstract deities alluded to by clueless clerics – an all-powerful, omnipresent deity that actually does exist.

If we assume, therefore, that the universe is itself an organism, a living entity, and that we are all copies of it, then this would imply that the more advanced products of an organic brain – ideas, theories, concepts – are also in their own way alive, they are metaphysical genes, as organic as the brain from which they originate. The ancients of the remote past, in my view, seem somehow to have understood this, which is why they devised a musical mode of existence in the form of prescribed disciplines and rituals which enabled them to psychologically conform to the laws and forces controlling evolution. This is precisely why religion was first invented – to instil into the collective consciousness of humanity the necessity of harmonising one's inner faculties according to the principles of the Hermetic Code.

The aim was quite straightforward, it was an attempt to complete the natural course of one's evolutionary and psychological development by living-out a harmonious existence and ultimately transcending on to a higher plane, a greater musical scale above. This greater scale, a wholly scientific concept describing a higher dimension of existence accessible to the trained mind, is the heaven expressed in all religions.

Active Dreaming

It is possible to enter a lucid dream directly from waking. Usually this entails lying down, relaxing, and allowing the body to fall asleep while the mind stays awake. Difficulties include falling asleep along with the body, or the body staying awake with the mind. Decoupling the two is tricky but possible.

To enter normal sleep we begin by letting our thoughts wander until they turn into daydreams that either dissolve into oblivion along with our self-awareness and volition or else spontaneously evolve into hypnagogic imagery (short vivid hallucinations) that eventually cohere into a full-blown three dimensional dreamscape. Which case it is depends on how far we are into sleep. Early on, sleep consists of delta brainwave activity and no REM (rapid eye movement) indicating consciousness is off elsewhere. Most likely the soul is running its astral errands while the body does its repairs. Later in the cycle after these tasks are out of the way, or when taking a nap, the delta stage is replaced by immediate onset of hypnagogic and REM activity after mental relaxation. But these are passive dreams since lack of lucidity in them implies impaired volition.

Why are dreams so much more vivid than conscious visualization? Because the images are being projected by the subconscious, not the conscious mind. Why do we lose self-awareness when we go to sleep? Because as we let our thoughts wander, the subconscious starts to direct our consciously projected images while our conscious mind takes on a more passive and self-obliterating role. It does not take long for the subconscious to take over the role of projector as well, and that is when mere mental images become virtual realities. The trade-off is that we have already abandoned ourselves by the time the dream projection kicks in.

We can understand the various states of internal imagery as being the result of either the conscious subconscious either directing or projecting these images:

active dreaming: conscious directs while subconscious projects.

passive dreaming: subconscious directs and projects.

daydreaming: subconscious directs while conscious projects.

visualizing: conscious directs and projects.

Inducing lucid dreams from a waking state therefore requires that the conscious mind retain its self-awareness and volition while the subconscious is given free reign to begin projecting the dreamscape.

One such method involves watching the phosphene images behind closed eyelids. These are the glowing blobs of static noise patterns that always fill our vision but are more easily noticed in the dark. Contrary to passive dreaming, this keeps one’s visual faculties active and focused on real sense impressions instead of turning within and getting lose in consciously projected daydreams or visualizations. You will notice that in dreams your “eyes” are focused on an environment existing “outside” you, seemingly as real as anything you might see with your physical eyes while awake. Staring out into the field of phosphenes involves an identically externalized point of focus, so one component of the dream experience is already established. It therefore does not take long for hypnagogic images to start up, although these can startle one back into full consciousness. With repeated exposure they become less startling.

The next issue is becoming so quickly absorbed in the phosphenes and hypnagogic images that one loses self-awareness before the subconscious is ready to begin projecting. To counter this a second technique may be employed: quickly opening and shutting your eyes every two or three breaths. This allows enough real sense data to come in, and is so intentionally controlled, that the mind has better chances of staying alert. And yet since this involves mere movement of the eyelids, the rest of the body is not prevented from doing its thing to fall asleep. One can keep this up until the hypnagogic state kicks in, then continue watching those and the phosphenes.

Very soon the body falls asleep by entering sleep paralysis, which feels like a sudden sinking, melting, tingling feeling. The subconscious is then at the verge of fully projecting the dreamscape, and one has only to retain enough self-awareness throughout the onset of sleep paralysis to allow the final consciously directed nudge to kick off a dream. For instance, after catching your body falling asleep, you can visualize and intend to roll out of bed. It is the intent combined with visualization that puts the subconscious fully online, and a dream begins. Then you can do reality checks (flipping a light switch, looking for inconsistencies) or astral checks (seeing your body still in bed with correct clothes on) and lucidly go from there.

Take note that because this technique requires immediate access to REM sleep, it must be done after already having slept five or six hours, or during the day when napping.

Some induction techniques start off with visualization, whereby the conscious mind directs and projects mental imagery until the subconscious takes over the role of projection. The above technique does not use visualization until the final nudge, thereby allowing the subconscious to start projecting more easily because it does not have to wrestle that role away from the conscious. Visualization is not necessary until the final stage when the body is asleep, otherwise it might interfere with the subconscious stepping into its role as projector.

Why is active dreaming important? Because it allows access to the dreaming faculty at will and is therefore more reliable and replicable than other methods involving autosuggestion, dream signs, periodic reality checks, and so on. However it is also more difficult to implement due to having to be conscious the moment the body falls asleep. But like any activity that requires finesse, whether hitting a golf ball or parallel parking, it can be trained with practice.

When the body has entered its melted tingly state, it is possible to anchor this using some tongue position, breathing pattern, eye movement, visualized sequence of symbols, or command phrase. When the anchor is repeatedly associated with this state, later the anchor can be invoked to cause the body to reflexively enter the state, dramatically shortening the induction procedure. But creating the association takes much repetition.

If the dream state is induced with the eyes open, then visual perceptions are no longer filtered or interpreted by the normal waking linear mind. Some data streams include energy patterns that normally escape our perception, such as etheric critters, thoughtforms, machinery, or intelligent beings positioned around us. What we see while in this state, or at least the visual image of it, is not actually outside of us but rather projected onto our field of vision from within by the subconscious. The subconscious projector overlays upon the visual field an interpretation of the incoming data stream. It is like an internal HUD (heads up display). Science attributes these to hypnopompic hallucinations, but I doubt these images always have to be delusions.

You may have noticed that dreams communicate to us messages from the subconscious via symbolic images, plays on words, and allegorical themes. But really the subconscious is just a portal to intelligences outside our linear conscious minds, one of these being the higher self. The dream projection, which employs the visual sense mostly, is therefore an indirect communicator allowing information flow across the conscious/subconscious gap. It is possible to do away with the visual aspect entirely and allow direct communion between yourself and the higher self, or at least between your consciousness and the true essence of things rather than their visually interpreted representation. With eyes open, rather than seeing interpretations of the data stream one could after sufficient levels of development see the data directly — this would be equivalent to seeing the “code of the matrix” so to speak.

Exploring inner space can therefore be quite productive, and it is the most rewarding and immediately evident superior alternative to technological substitutes that threaten to disconnect us from our conscious abilities. In terms of detail and effects, lucid dreams far surpass any available video gaming system. Of course it is easier to hit a power button than train to actively dream, but the thought that we carry within us such untapped power does evoke awe.

The Egypt Code

It has been twelve years since ‘The Orion Correlation Theory’ (OCT) was announced to the world in The Orion Mystery, by Robert Bauval and Adrian Gilbert. During that time, Robert Bauval has expanded on his theory with Graham Hancock in Keeper of Genesis, and has also been met head-on by an Egyptological orthodoxy not willing to accept that the pyramids of Giza may have been laid out to mimic the stars of the constellation Orion.

It is a little difficult to understand why the OCT has been rebuked so ferociously by not only Egyptologists, but also astronomers such as Ed Krupp. The likeness is quite apparent, and there is much to suggest that the ancient Egyptians revered the Orion constellation in particular – even if one day it is ultimately proven incorrect, it still seems a topic well worth some serious discussion. In all likelihood, the orthodox opposition to Bauval’s research comes not so much from that core theory, but from the other subjects associated with him from the ‘alternative history’ genre throughout the 1990s – the Age of the Sphinx controversy, the 10,500 BCE date given by Bauval for the perfect mirror image of the Giza layout to be present in the sky, and the confluence of this date with theories of a lost civilisation (notably the big ‘A’: Atlantis).

It seems that in The Egypt Code, Bauval has set himself the task of re-establishing his core theory – and the wider gestalt of the Ancient Egyptian cosmology being firmly rooted in events happening in the sky – to the academic establishment. And while he still sits firmly on the fringe, in this book he stays within arms-length of orthodox Egyptology. So, while he cites Colin Reader’s ideas on an earlier dating for the Sphinx, there is no mention of Robert Schoch or John Anthony West. Similarly, when he raises the ‘Zep Tepi’ alignment of the Giza pyramids to 11,541 BCE, he is very careful not to suggest a civilisation being present in Egypt at this time…instead, the Egyptian priests of the third millennium were just trying to mimic the sky at the ‘first time’ with their layout. As such, if anybody buying this book is expecting a New Age look at Egypt, they will be sorely disappointed. As Bauval points out in the Introduction:

‘The Egypt Code’, contrary to what Egyptologists will surely be quick to claim, is not a New Age book that regurgitates wild speculations and theories that cannot be verified or tested. My thesis is entirely verifiable, testable and ultimately falsifiable if need be.

Bauval’s research on this ‘lost’ Egyptian cosmology can be separated into three main areas: the ‘as above, so below’ theme, in which pyramids were built on the ground as representations of Orion and the Pleiades; that changes in temple sitings and orientations can be put down to the slow changes in star alignments caused by precession; and that the ‘meshing’ of the Egyptian calendars (the ‘civil’ and ‘stellar’) were the cause of momentous events in Ancient Egypt.

Bauval begins the book with a quick recap of his previous work, and then introduces the new book in earnest with a visit to the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. Here Bauval gives his opinion the inclined serdab holding a sky-watching statue of Djoser, before moving on to an analysis of the Heb Sed festival and the peculiarities of the Egyptian calendar, in particular the ‘Great Year’ of the Sothic cycle (based on the rising of the star Sirius) which has a span of 1460 years. Funnily enough, even at this early point in the book it is quite clear that the Ancient Egyptians had a fixation with the starry heavens and their cycles, and one wonders why Bauval has had to fight so hard to get his theories debated seriously.

Chapter 3 marks the return of the area most associated with Bauval – the Giza necropolis. But Bauval goes further, pointing out probable alignments and correspondences in the centers of Heliopolis, Letopolis, the Sun Temples of Abu Ghorab and the pyramids of Abusir. Perhaps the most controversial part of the book is when Bauval then states that this hermetic model is matched exactly only by a date in the 12th millennium BCE.

Chapter 4 details the many references – modern and ancient – to the Egyptians being sky-watchers. Some of these are extremely effective, such as Bauval’s citing of Proclus, who wrote "that the Egyptians had already taught Plato about the movements of the fixed stars…they did not speak just a single time, but many times…of the advance of the fixed stars." He even finds a positive mention on Egyptian knowledge of precession from a former nemesis, astronomer Ed Krupp!

The following two chapters move into Upper Egypt, cataloguing the varying alignments of temple complexes and beginning to outline another of Bauval’s assertions – that the ‘return of the Phoenix’ was related to the meshing of the civil calendar with the long ‘Great Year’ of the Sothic cycle. Bauval then goes on to suggest that the Amarna period under Akhenaten was inspired by this ‘return of the Phoenix’, based on the dating of one of these moments by Censorinus, as was a construction program at Karnak.

And all of a sudden, the book concludes. It’s an excellent summary, concisely explaining the numerous points made in the rest of the book. But it does surprise you, as the book proper finishes at under 200 pages, being followed by 84 pages of relevant appendices. Despite the well written conclusion though, the reader is left feeling like they have read some very interesting, diverse theories on Egyptian astronomy, without it ever amounting to something conclusive. It’s as if Bauval has pointed out numerous items of interest, and then just concluded the book. In his favour, he does gather them under the theme of the Egyptian need to live in cosmic balance – the concept of Ma’at – but these separate theories on mirroring the stars, meshing calendars and changing temple alignments never seem to fit into one cohesive philosophy. Perhaps that can just be put down to the obscure nature of most Egyptian philosophy, hidden by the mists of four millennia.

However, it must be said that each of these various astronomical theories are very interesting to read about. Bauval finds good references to support his ideas, such as the paper by Arielle Kozloff on star-gazing in Ancient Egypt. He also points out interesting pieces of information which could be relevant, such as number of panels in the wall of the Saqqara complex being 1459 and 1461, in comparison to the Sothic cycle of 1460 years. Bauvals’ writing style is his best thus far, with lovely descriptions of the Nile flood and what it would have meant for the people of Ancient Egypt.

However, the inherent nature of the book – discussing meshing calendrics, changing alignments of stars and the movement of the Sun – results in difficult reading in some sections. For instance:

In 2500 BC 1 Tybi would not have fallen on 19 October but, because of the drifting calendar, rather on 28 December. The position of the Sun at that date would have been about 26 degrees south-of-east and thus way off the alignment of the causeway, which is 14 degrees south-of-east. In other words, for the causeway to align with the sunrise on 1 Tybi, it had to have been aligned in c. 2781 BC and not c. 2500 BC.

I’m sure this all makes very good sense when you understand the concepts properly and can sit down and study the passage properly. But the casual reader may well find themselves struggling to keep up with Bauval at these moments. Certainly, some more diagrams illustrating these sorts of passages would probably have made things more understandable.
But this book appears to be about putting Bauval’s theories out there in a serious manner, while ultimately allowing for a popular read. As such, there is some give and take to both readers – Bauval explains things in enough detail for academics, while at the same time keeping things concise and reasonably simple for the majority of the book.

It would be wrong of me to comment on the validity of Bauval’s theories. While I’m more conversant than most ‘general readers’ on the subject of Egyptian astronomy, I certainly defer to more authoritative analysis of the book’s exposition of an ‘Egypt Code’ which I’m sure will be forthcoming. What I do hope though, is that these authoritative analyses are done in the spirit of science with some objectivity, rather than with an eye to dismissing it all because of Bauval’s previous clashes with orthodox Egyptology. It will certainly be interesting to see how things pan out over the coming months.

Ultimately, The Egypt Code offers a glimpse into Ancient Egyptian culture and architecture which suggests that they attributed an immense significance to living in tune with the cosmos, in particular the cycle of the stars. In Bauval’s words: "I believe that I have been able to make visible an ancient ‘code’ that can help Egyptology to shed more light on the greatest and most spiritually enlightened civilisation the world has ever known or is likely to know again in the future. Our present civilisation is in dire need of this ancient model of wisdom." That is about as New Age as Bauval gets in this book – readers seeking an adventure into the Hall of Records, replete with Atlantean civilisation should stay away. However, for those wishing to revisit Ancient Egypt and the OCT with Bauval, it is definitely a stimulating read.

Do We Really Have Free Will?

I was a free man until they brought the dessert menu around. There was one of those molten chocolate cakes, and I was suddenly being dragged into a vortex, swirling helplessly toward caloric doom, sucked toward the edge of a black (chocolate) hole. Visions of my father’s heart attack danced before my glazed eyes. My wife, Nancy, had a resigned look on her face.

The outcome, endlessly replayed whenever we go out, is never in doubt, though I often cover my tracks by offering to split my dessert with the table. O.K., I can imagine what you’re thinking. There but for the grace of God.

Having just lived through another New Year’s Eve, many of you have just resolved to be better, wiser, stronger and richer in the coming months and years. After all, we’re free humans, not slaves, robots or animals doomed to repeat the same boring mistakes over and over again. As William James wrote in 1890, the whole “sting and excitement” of life comes from “our sense that in it things are really being decided from one moment to another, and that it is not the dull rattling off of a chain that was forged innumerable ages ago.” Get over it, Dr. James. Go get yourself fitted for a new chain-mail vest. A bevy of experiments in recent years suggest that the conscious mind is like a monkey riding a tiger of subconscious decisions and actions in progress, frantically making up stories about being in control.

As a result, physicists, neuroscientists and computer scientists have joined the heirs of Plato and Aristotle in arguing about what free will is, whether we have it, and if not, why we ever thought we did in the first place.

“Is it an illusion? That’s the question,” said Michael Silberstein, a science philosopher at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. Another question, he added, is whether talking about this in public will fan the culture wars.

“If people freak at evolution, etc.,” he wrote in an e-mail message, “how much more will they freak if scientists and philosophers tell them they are nothing more than sophisticated meat machines, and is that conclusion now clearly warranted or is it premature?”

Daniel C. Dennett, a philosopher and cognitive scientist at Tufts University who has written extensively about free will, said that “when we consider whether free will is an illusion or reality, we are looking into an abyss. What seems to confront us is a plunge into nihilism and despair.”

Mark Hallett, a researcher with the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, said, “Free will does exist, but it’s a perception, not a power or a driving force. People experience free will. They have the sense they are free.

“The more you scrutinize it, the more you realize you don’t have it,” he said.

That is hardly a new thought. The German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer said, as Einstein paraphrased it, that “a human can very well do what he wants, but cannot will what he wants.”

Einstein, among others, found that a comforting idea. “This knowledge of the non-freedom of the will protects me from losing my good humor and taking much too seriously myself and my fellow humans as acting and judging individuals,” he said.

How comforted or depressed this makes you might depend on what you mean by free will. The traditional definition is called “libertarian” or “deep” free will. It holds that humans are free moral agents whose actions are not predetermined. This school of thought says in effect that the whole chain of cause and effect in the history of the universe stops dead in its tracks as you ponder the dessert menu.

At that point, anything is possible. Whatever choice you make is unforced and could have been otherwise, but it is not random. You are responsible for any damage to your pocketbook and your arteries.

“That strikes many people as incoherent,” said Dr. Silberstein, who noted that every physical system that has been investigated has turned out to be either deterministic or random. “Both are bad news for free will,” he said. So if human actions can’t be caused and aren’t random, he said, “It must be — what — some weird magical power?”

People who believe already that humans are magic will have no problem with that.

But whatever that power is — call it soul or the spirit — those people have to explain how it could stand independent of the physical universe and yet reach from the immaterial world and meddle in our own, jiggling brain cells that lead us to say the words “molten chocolate.”

A vote in favor of free will comes from some physicists, who say it is a prerequisite for inventing theories and planning experiments.

That is especially true when it comes to quantum mechanics, the strange paradoxical theory that ascribes a microscopic randomness to the foundation of reality. Anton Zeilinger, a quantum physicist at the University of Vienna, said recently that quantum randomness was “not a proof, just a hint, telling us we have free will.”

Is there any evidence beyond our own intuitions and introspections that humans work that way?

Two Tips of the Iceberg

In the 1970s, Benjamin Libet, a physiologist at the University of California, San Francisco, wired up the brains of volunteers to an electroencephalogram and told the volunteers to make random motions, like pressing a button or flicking a finger, while he noted the time on a clock.

Dr. Libet found that brain signals associated with these actions occurred half a second before the subject was conscious of deciding to make them.

The order of brain activities seemed to be perception of motion, and then decision, rather than the other way around.

In short, the conscious brain was only playing catch-up to what the unconscious brain was already doing. The decision to act was an illusion, the monkey making up a story about what the tiger had already done.

Dr. Libet’s results have been reproduced again and again over the years, along with other experiments that suggest that people can be easily fooled when it comes to assuming ownership of their actions. Patients with tics or certain diseases, like chorea, cannot say whether their movements are voluntary or involuntary, Dr. Hallett said.

In some experiments, subjects have been tricked into believing they are responding to stimuli they couldn’t have seen in time to respond to, or into taking credit or blame for things they couldn’t have done. Take, for example, the “voodoo experiment” by Dan Wegner, a psychologist at Harvard, and Emily Pronin of Princeton. In the experiment, two people are invited to play witch doctor.

One person, the subject, puts a curse on the other by sticking pins into a doll. The second person, however, is in on the experiment, and by prior arrangement with the doctors, acts either obnoxious, so that the pin-sticker dislikes him, or nice.

After a while, the ostensible victim complains of a headache. In cases in which he or she was unlikable, the subject tended to claim responsibility for causing the headache, an example of the “magical thinking” that makes baseball fans put on their rally caps.

“We made it happen in a lab,” Dr. Wegner said.

Is a similar sort of magical thinking responsible for the experience of free will?

“We see two tips of the iceberg, the thought and the action,” Dr. Wegner said, “and we draw a connection.”

But most of the action is going on beneath the surface. Indeed, the conscious mind is often a drag on many activities. Too much thinking can give a golfer the yips. Drivers perform better on automatic pilot. Fiction writers report writing in a kind of trance in which they simply take dictation from the voices and characters in their head, a grace that is, alas, rarely if ever granted nonfiction writers.

Naturally, almost everyone has a slant on such experiments and whether or not the word “illusion” should be used in describing free will. Dr. Libet said his results left room for a limited version of free will in the form of a veto power over what we sense ourselves doing. In effect, the unconscious brain proposes and the mind disposes.

In a 1999 essay, he wrote that although this might not seem like much, it was enough to satisfy ethical standards. “Most of the Ten Commandments are ‘do not’ orders,” he wrote.

But that might seem a pinched and diminished form of free will.

Good Intentions

Dr. Dennett, the Tufts professor, is one of many who have tried to redefine free will in a way that involves no escape from the materialist world while still offering enough autonomy for moral responsibility, which seems to be what everyone cares about.

The belief that the traditional intuitive notion of a free will divorced from causality is inflated, metaphysical nonsense, Dr. Dennett says reflecting an outdated dualistic view of the world.

Rather, Dr. Dennett argues, it is precisely our immersion in causality and the material world that frees us. Evolution, history and culture, he explains, have endowed us with feedback systems that give us the unique ability to reflect and think things over and to imagine the future. Free will and determinism can co-exist.

“All the varieties of free will worth having, we have,” Dr. Dennett said.

“We have the power to veto our urges and then to veto our vetoes,” he said. “We have the power of imagination, to see and imagine futures.”

In this regard, causality is not our enemy but our friend, giving us the ability to look ahead and plan. “That’s what makes us moral agents,” Dr. Dennett said. “You don’t need a miracle to have responsibility.”

Other philosophers disagree on the degree and nature of such “freedom.” Their arguments partly turn on the extent to which collections of things, whether electrons or people, can transcend their origins and produce novel phenomena.

These so-called emergent phenomena, like brains and stock markets, or the idea of democracy, grow naturally in accordance with the laws of physics, so the story goes. But once they are here, they play by new rules, and can even act on their constituents, as when an artist envisions a teapot and then sculpts it — a concept sometimes known as “downward causation.” A knowledge of quarks is no help in predicting hurricanes — it’s physics all the way down. But does the same apply to the stock market or to the brain? Are the rules elusive just because we can’t solve the equations or because something fundamentally new happens when we increase numbers and levels of complexity?

Opinions vary about whether it will ultimately prove to be physics all the way down, total independence from physics, or some shade in between, and thus how free we are. Dr. Silberstein, the Elizabethtown College professor, said, “There’s nothing in fundamental physics by itself that tells us we can’t have such emergent properties when we get to different levels of complexities.”

He waxed poetically as he imagined how the universe would evolve, with more and more complicated forms emerging from primordial quantum muck as from an elaborate computer game, in accordance with a few simple rules: “If you understand, you ought to be awestruck, you ought to be bowled over.”

George R. F. Ellis, a cosmologist at the University of Cape Town, said that freedom could emerge from this framework as well. “A nuclear bomb, for example, proceeds to detonate according to the laws of nuclear physics,” he explained in an e-mail message. “Whether it does indeed detonate is determined by political and ethical considerations, which are of a completely different order.”

I have to admit that I find these kind of ideas inspiring, if not liberating. But I worry that I am being sold a sort of psychic perpetual motion machine. Free wills, ideas, phenomena created by physics but not accountable to it. Do they offer a release from the chains of determinism or just a prescription for a very intricate weave of the links? And so I sought clarity from mathematicians and computer scientists. According to deep mathematical principles, they say, even machines can become too complicated to predict their own behavior and would labor under the delusion of free will.

If by free will we mean the ability to choose, even a simple laptop computer has some kind of free will, said Seth Lloyd, an expert on quantum computing and professor of mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Every time you click on an icon, he explained, the computer’s operating system decides how to allocate memory space, based on some deterministic instructions. But, Dr. Lloyd said, “If I ask how long will it take to boot up five minutes from now, the operating system will say ‘I don’t know, wait and see, and I’ll make decisions and let you know.’ ”

Why can’t computers say what they’re going to do? In 1930, the Austrian philosopher Kurt Gödel proved that in any formal system of logic, which includes mathematics and a kind of idealized computer called a Turing machine, there are statements that cannot be proven either true or false. Among them are self-referential statements like the famous paradox stated by the Cretan philosopher Epimenides, who said that all Cretans are liars: if he is telling the truth, then, as a Cretan, he is lying.

One implication is that no system can contain a complete representation of itself, or as Janna Levin, a cosmologist at Barnard College of Columbia University and author of the 2006 novel about Gödel, “A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines,” said: “Gödel says you can’t program intelligence as complex as yourself. But you can let it evolve. A complex machine would still suffer from the illusion of free will.”

Another implication is there is no algorithm, or recipe for computation, to determine when or if any given computer program will finish some calculation. The only way to find out is to set it computing and see what happens. Any way to find out would be tantamount to doing the calculation itself.

“There are no shortcuts in computation,” Dr. Lloyd said.

That means that the more reasonably you try to act, the more unpredictable you are, at least to yourself, Dr. Lloyd said. Even if your wife knows you will order the chile rellenos, you have to live your life to find out.

To him that sounds like free will of a sort, for machines as well as for us. Our actions are determined, but so what? We still don’t know what they will be until the waiter brings the tray.

That works for me, because I am comfortable with so-called physicalist reasoning, and I’m always happy to leverage concepts of higher mathematics to cut through philosophical knots.

The Magician’s Spell

So what about Hitler?

The death of free will, or its exposure as a convenient illusion, some worry, could wreak havoc on our sense of moral and legal responsibility. According to those who believe that free will and determinism are incompatible, Dr. Silberstein said in an e-mail message, it would mean that “people are no more responsible for their actions than asteroids or planets.” Anything would go.

Dr. Wegner of Harvard said: “We worry that explaining evil condones it. We have to maintain our outrage at Hitler. But wouldn’t it be nice to have a theory of evil in advance that could keep him from coming to power?”

He added, “A system a bit more focused on helping people change rather than paying them back for what they’ve done might be a good thing.”

Dr. Wegner said he thought that exposing free will as an illusion would have little effect on people’s lives or on their feelings of self-worth. Most of them would remain in denial.

“It’s an illusion, but it’s a very persistent illusion; it keeps coming back,” he said, comparing it to a magician’s trick that has been seen again and again. “Even though you know it’s a trick, you get fooled every time. The feelings just don’t go away.”

In an essay about free will in 1999, Dr. Libet wound up quoting the writer Isaac Bashevis Singer, who once said in an interview with the Paris Review, “The greatest gift which humanity has received is free choice. It is true that we are limited in our use of free choice. But the little free choice we have is such a great gift and is potentially worth so much that for this itself, life is worthwhile living.”

I could skip the chocolate cake, I really could, but why bother? Waiter!

John Titor. Time Traveller

In the last couple of days I've been introduced to an interesting tale. A tale that disturbed me, concerned me, made me wonder if our world as we know it has less than 15 years left.

It is the tale of John Titor, a self-proclaimed time traveler from the year 2036.

Okay, it sounds crazy. It's not crazy, though...it's simply a hoax. It's a compelling hoax, so I decided to write my take on it. After some initial 'what if' excitement about it, the reality set in that this wasn't what it appeared to be. In this piece, I hope to prove relatively clearly that his claims are false both in theory and in fact. He seemed to know enough about physics to pass amongst laymen, but unfortunately he skipped philosophy and economics while he was reading all those physics books. Since this story just won't seem to die and there is evidence that the same perpetrator is now claiming to be an alien on various boards across the web, I felt it was worth sitting down and analyzing.

I should begin by providing the source material. This is the best collective of John Titor records I could find. I don't know who owns the domain or runs the site, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's 'Titor' himself. The skew is absolutely 'pro' Titor, clutching at the most remote potential 'proof' that what he claimed is true.

John's tale is one that is easy to believe. In a few short years from when he began telling it, the United States was to face some sort of internal crisis resulting in a civil war, one of militias and rural gun owners against totalitarian city states ruled by the federal government. Beginning in 2004 and early 2005, this civil 'flares up and down' for ten years until, in 2015, Russia attacks the government of the United States (AKA the urban city states), China and the European Union. The war is short and very nuclear. He claims that the US government (which he dubs the 'AFE (American Federal Empire)') is destroyed, along with the European Union and China. He says that in 2036, Russia is the new United States' primary trading partner.

Along with these claims of war, he makes reference to CJD (AKA Mad Cow Disease) becoming 'pandemic' by 2036 due to our current misunderstanding of how it gestates. (An apparent latency period of 10-30 years leads to virtually every meat eater in the world coming down with it.) He gives many details about the world of the future and his time machine, as well as his 'mission' in the past.

He revealed his story using bulletin boards across the web, particularly Art Bell's P2P bulletin board and anomalies.net. He seemed to answer people's questions to the best of his ability, but refused to answer certain questions based on a code of ethics. He supplied pictures of his time machine, even scans of the operational manual with cutaway technical drawings.

In April of 2001, he 'returned' to the year 2036 to complete his mission.

He never tried to convince anyone, at least, not overtly. He never asked for anything, never tried to sell anything, even refused to help change our potential future for reasons he attempted to explain based on his religious faith and knowledge of time travel and 'worldlines'.

The problem is, it was all a lie. He stayed a little too long and started to get his answers crossed up. I'm going to attempt to address some of the major flaws in his story and possibly debunk this story once and for all.

Economics
Titor mentioned economics a few times.

'There is no large industrial complex creating masses of useless food and recreational items. Food and livestock is grown and sold locally.'
'Life is much more rural in the future but "high" technology is used to communicate and travel. People raise a great deal of their own food and do
more "farm" work. Yes, compared to now, we do work long hours. After the war, my father made a living selling oranges up and down the West coast of
Florida. My closest friend raises horses and another works for a company that maintains "wireless" Internet nodes.'
'Its not very different than it is now. Yes, we have money and credit cards. However, like everything else, the monetary system is decentralized. Banking
is based mostly around the community structure. There are no multinational banking or computerized economic systems. There are also no income taxes.'

All good, right?

He stumbles here:

'In 2036, community life is a bit different. People are valued and judged based on their contribution and worth. Work is organized around the family and the value of that work is assessed inside of the community. Most communities range in size from 1000 to 4000 people. If a family wanted to move from one community to another or if a son or daughter wanted to move to another community, they must apply and be interviewed by the community leadership council. During this process, the family or individual is evaluated as to whether or not the work or skill they have is required or necessary to that individual community. Once accepted, the family or individual is expected to uphold their end of the work and support the community. If they don't, the community stops supporting them and they are forced to change their attitude or move away from the community.

The family work we did was picking, sorting and shipping oranges by sailboat up and down the coast of Florida. We were expected to produce a certain
amount for the community and a certain amount for other communities as agreed to by our CLC. In exchange, we received power, water, a certain amount of food and other necessities that were produced inside our community.'

He basically describes communal living. The economy is communist, with work creating goods or providing services in exchange for other goods and services. Where do credit cards enter into this picture? Money? The ability to make money or pay credit card bills? They don't. Those are elements of a capitalist society...the exact opposite of the cultural picture he paints in those paragraphs.

It gets worse.

'The people who sign my paycheck told me why we needed a 5100 and sent me off to get one.'

So he gets a paycheck. Does that sound like the trading/communal system? Watch as the economics of his claims fall apart.

'27. Yes, paper money is still widely used.'
'Does money look different than it does now? No, money is pretty much the same. Unfortunately, I do not have any money with me because I wouldn't be able to use it here.'
'Is the same type of currency used? Is ours today good in 2010 or 2020? Yes, we use money. That's a good question. I don't see why you couldn't use
your current bills in the future.'

It IS a good question. Currently, the value of the dollar is based on a 'floating currency system'. In 2002 that became a -dual- currency system when the Euro came out as the competition on the world market for dollar share. A good link describing money in the US is here.

The current system of currency would collapse in the event of a catastrophic world war wiping out the financial centers and banking hubs of the world. Paper money would just be paper, as there would be no banks or federal reserve to guarantee it. Even falling back on the old gold standard wouldn't work, as there wouldn't be a United States government to put one in place. (Is one to believe that Fort Knox would be spared from the nuclear barrage? Lots of tanks there as well as gold.) Even -if-, in the 20 years since the initial attacks, the U.S. had managed to create a new monetary system to replace the old, and give it some sort of basis that would allow for trading it not only amongst ourselves for goods and services but also with other countries, our current money would certainly be worthless seeing as how it's value is based on systems no longer valid after the catastrophic destruction of half of mankind.

There are other economic and logical problems with his story. GE makes the time machine...but surely, all urban areas were destroyed? Somehow not only did GE (headquartered in New York City) somehow survive as a company, but their research and development allowed them to continue current research UNABATED throughout civil and nuclear war! Quite an amazing company, that GE.

Moving forward, we run into philosophical problems with his time travel model.

The entirety of his explanation for time travel is based on one single concept: that there are infinite universes where every single possible occurance has already played out. Each one of these universes is a 'worldline' and the time machine allows you to return to the past by jumping 'worldlines' into one where you were in a time machine and arrived at that time. This explains away all of the philosophical questions about time travel, paradoxes, etc. You aren't changing YOUR past, it's a past virtually identical to yours. You can't return to YOUR future, it's a future virtually identical to yours. He explains this away here:

'However, the reason there are no paradoxes is because the universe doesn't care how we react to its handy-work. In a Universe made up of infinite worldliness (super universe), everything is possible and has a 100% probability, therefore: no paradoxes.'

Now, stay with me here. Matter leaves one worldline. That matter is the machine and the human transported in it. That matter appears in another worldline. The very fact that it appeared in that worldline makes it a different worldline.

However.

How can matter jump from one worldline to another? If all you are doing is creating another worldline, then that worldline is changed the moment you interact with it. In short, every single moment and movement you make is represented by another worldline, to infinity. Even the slightest variation in 'reality' or action is represented by another worldline.

If that is true, then there is no empirical 'you'. 'You' are not travelling anywhere. Your consciousness cannot go from one worldline to another simply because every moment a new 'you' is created in a new worldline. Nothing 'goes' from one to another, there is no possible way for them to be linked because they simply do not exist relative to one another! In order for matter to transfer from one worldline to another, according to this theory, then one empirical, overriding worldline would have to exist. One 'you' would be able to jump from one reality to the other. Changes you make to that reality would be changes. By bridging two worldlines in such a way, you run into quite the philosophical paradox indeed. Where do you exist?

He explains this away by saying that he won't return to his worldline, that he'll just return to another almost exactly like it. He also says he'll have to jump back to his original destination (1975). Later, he says he has to hit 1998, THEN 1975, THEN back to 2036. Using his reasoning, he's bridging six different worldlines...the original 2036, the first 1975, the 2001, the 1998, the second 1975, and the second 2036. When you have to imagine the 'hims' in all these relatively identical worldlines making the same bridges, eventually the lines start to cross. Logic and reason break down, paradoxes occur, and the whole thing becomes simply impossible. Let's not even broach the subject of his so called 'ethics' in attempting to avoid changing our worldline, yet giving us details of an impending civil war and a nuclear war thereafter.

This smacks of a hoax from the start. It has all of the classic elements of a well-planned hoax. The paranormal individual has a reason to avoid direct questions, or to proclaim ignorance about anything direct. Using educated guesses and estimates of his audience, he spins tales that sound soothing to their ears. (His libertarian-ish militia-happy anti-goverment future plays well to the conspiracy types over at anomalies.net and his other haunts.) Really, he's not far removed from cold-reading psychics or old time spiritualists. Do a little research and be ready to wow them with knowledge from beyond!

Towards the end, his tale fell apart completely. He had personal contact with some of the anomalies.net board mods and promised far more than he could deliver. After repeatedly stepping on his own story (in examples given above and those I didn't go into) he promised a video would be made of his 'jump' home. Word had it that the video was made...then it simply never arrived. The final breakdown of his story appears in this link, as the moderators discover that he is indeed still with us...posing as an alien on another board.

Scientific Explanations Of Remote Viewing

By Gerald O'Donnell

Eighteenth and nineteenth century physical science had completed and embellished the "golden age of a mechanistic and deterministic models of the universe" where the universe and its constituents are ruled by rigid interactive forces that can be measured, phenomena that can be predicted using mathematical tools, and where the universe or any system operating within it is made of the sum of its parts.

Light was thought to be an electromagnetic wave vibrating in an undetected, and later experimentally disproved media: "the ether", at certain rates of vibration that would define its color.

It was part of the electromagnetic wave spectrum that allowed one to perceive an electromagnetic wave as heat, light , radio waves, or other electromagnetic radiations depending on the frequency of its vibrations. This spectrum had been well-defined by the equations of the English physicist James Clerk Maxwell in 1864.

Man's biology was reduced to a mechanical system albeit of extreme complexity, and thought was perceived to be but an epiphenomenon of the mechanical brain.

All this was very hygienic, logical, and comforting. It allowed to view the so-called invisible world of spiritual forces or entities as a personal unproven hypothesis, and permitted the justification of atheistic concept to be scientifically sound. Basically it allowed for purely atheistic politico-philosophies alike communism to find a sympathetic resonance within the "intelligentsia" and the masses.

It also gave a great mechanistic impetus and approach to the fields of biology, microbiology, psychology, neurobiology, and the allopathic technical mechanistic approach to the health sciences. Technology was "king" and the understanding of interactions between well-defined separated systems would bring the possible conquest of disturbances and imperfections in the "machinery" of biological entities.

Man having created a new religion called "science", which revered himself and his intellect, had the perception of having attained a Godlike control over nature.

By the end of 19th century the ultraviolet catastrophe - as it came to be known - put this whole hygienic view of the world in question, and the theory of "quanta" of Max Planck was introduced in 1900. The German physicist Max Planck introduced the notion of packets of energy that he called "quanta" in order to explain why the wavelength (color) of the radiation given off by heated objects did not rise in a continuous manner but in discontinuous spurts from value to value as they grew hotter. Danish physicist Niels Bohr, who was to become later one of the fathers of the "Manhattan Project" that developed the first US A-bomb during WWII, used in 1913 the theory of "quanta" of energy in order to prove that the whole world of atoms was full of "quantum" jumps. An electron could jump from one level of energy (so-called orbit) to another without appearing in-between these states. Discontinuity had been introduced in our equation of the universe!

In 1905 Albert Einstein defined light as made of quanta of energy or particles that he coined "photons" in his famous paper explaining the photoelectric effect for which he received a Nobel prize in 1923. He nevertheless acknowledged that light could also be defined as a wave, depending on the mode of observation used in a chosen experiment, and the particle/wave duality was introduced in our attempts to grasp the mysteries of nature.

The new physics of the beginnings of the twentieth century gave a mortal blow to the deterministic principles of the old school of thought. Time and space became relative notions according to the theory of relativity of Albert Einstein. Quantum physics stated that all particles of matter could be viewed either as material bodies or as waves. It allowed for one electron (or any other particle) to be in two locations at once (double slit experiment), and proved that one could not predict the next location of a particle by knowing its present one.

In the strange world of quantum physics, particles dematerialized themselves into waves (such as in transistors) and rematerialized themselves later into particles. This depended on the type of experiment they were subjected to, and most importantly: the choice made by a conscious observer as to how he or she would view these particles.

To most theorists, the phenomena of nature existed only as determined states as a conscious observer witnessed them, either directly, or through the artifacts of a measuring device. Quantum mechanics was born, and with it our view of reality would be forever changed.

In order to comprehend events in the phenomenal world, one needed to introduce a major variable that had until then been ignored: The consciousness (self reflective thought) of the observer. Without the perception of a material world by a conscious entity, there were great doubts as to the existence of that material reality independently of its observation.

In other words we make a potential reality manifest itself by our choices, even retroactively through time and immediately across the perceived infinite space, as the two experiments mentioned hereafter have proven, to the surprise of most physicists. Or, in other words, volition and free will operate outside the confines of time/space, and our impression of making choices is but a delayed awareness of events that higher levels of our minds have already made for us and therefore project to our awareness (ego) as a holographic packet of sensory information, post facto. We are therefore, at a higher level, the maker (subject) of our reality projected to one's self (object) within the web of probabilities of the quantum world that we "materialize" for both the subject and the object that are but two mirrors of one same reality: Consciousness, defined as self -reflective awareness.

Very advanced "remote viewers" know at which points volition is part of the higher levels of one's self and at which points it is made available to the lower (conscious level), as the quantum self or higher self merges with the lower self (ego).

Our courses attempts to allow the conscious part (reactive sensory apparatus operating as intellect) and the much higher vibratory mind (deep subconscious level) to merge with each other in awareness in order to allow a human individual to be more in control of one's reality and probable future. At the level of the higher mind time/space is instantly bridged. "Remote Viewing" and especially "Remote Influencing" allows one to connect to that level.

Mr. O'Donnell only mentions quantum physics in order to allow for the comforting view of reality of most individuals to be shattered and at the very least questioned. Each one is to find his or her own truth, using eventually his or her own path. The course is only meant as a guide to a new world, an opening to a new way of viewing and experiencing reality.

In 1982 at the Institute of Applied Physics and Theoretical Optics at the University of Paris, France, the team of physicists composed of Alain Aspect, Jean Dalibard and Gerard Roger made what may prove to be the greatest scientific discovery of this century. They proved experimentally that the world is non-local or non-separable. This is equivalent to saying that space, as we perceive it to be, does not exist, but is an illusion of our senses. Projected by whom? This is the big question that science tries to answer.

In the same field of quantum theory, time is not only relative but one can experimentally change the past, as the delayed choice experiment, carried out by scientists in the 80's at the University of Maryland and the University of Munich has proven.

Although this all seems to belong to the realm of science-fiction, it is a reality, albeit hard to accept, for all the minds that dwell in the world of the quanta: a world full of seemingly contradictions, surprises, and a certain sense of humor.

All modern disciplines are nowadays affected by it, short maybe of modern biology, neurobiology and surprisingly psychology that are still embracing a mechanistic view of thought and have not, as yet, been able to define it.

Quantum physics gave us the invention of the atomic bomb, the transistor, the computer chip, laser and devices using laser light as a conduct for information, Josephson junctions in supercomputers, superconductors etc.

You should never doubt your natural-born ability to operate at such a high vibratory level of thought. This ability has been proven since antiquity, and is still utilized successfully by highly secretive intelligence units belonging to the major world powers.

This is one case where a dose of skepticism in the field of thought orientation and exploration is unhealthy, and the fear of ridicule even more so. You have to become open-minded, as a child is. All major shifts in scientific thought have incurred the ire of the static-minded old Praetorian Guard of proven inadequate sclerotic systems that are beginning to hit too many walls loaded with points of singularity.

The methods taught in our courses are probably part of the dawn of a new paradigm shift in scientific thinking that will revolutionize and change the "old classical scientific concepts" of the late 19th century that still rule for most of us our interpretation of our perceived material reality. This will have major implications in the natural and health sciences, the biological perceptions and their assumed correlations, all other phenomenal science, and the understanding of what the mind is.

If we are in the process of constantly creating our reality by thinking about it in an individualized and global manner, and that science reflects but a snapshot of our attempt at understanding our Creation, a major shift in our thought- perception will induce totally different ways at experiencing the phenomenal world and controlling it to our desires.

All aspects of our lives in this new Millennium will, most likely, be profoundly transformed by it.

The introduction of consciousness as a major factor in the equation of reality by modern quantum physics is at the core of one of the major paradox of so-called psychic research. According to quantum physics, the thought of the observer has an influence upon the result of an experiment. Therefore, if we are co-creator of our reality by mere thought, the natural imbued skepticism of many scientists and their methodologies introduce a negative bias in the results that they would obtain in thought experiment such as "remote viewing" etc.

In other words, in order to achieve 100% success at proving the efficacy of "remote viewing or influencing " one would need to deal with scientists and tests subjects that are of the firm belief of the easy achievement of such mental feats, which would automatically be called a bias experimental protocol by the skeptical scientific community. That is why the best results at remote viewing were always achieved within intelligence and military secret units that pragmatically only cared about bridging time and space effectively using mental technologies, and were not the least concerned about peer recognition and the fear of being ridiculed.

About the author: Mr. Gerald O'Donnell, founder of Academy of Remote Viewing and Remote Influencing , has been a visionary in mind/consciousness research. He is now dedicating his life to skilfully inspiring and guiding students through healing and empowering meditations on Oneness, to access incredibly high levels of creative energy, that allow for the rapid manifestation of desires based upon one's thoughts. http://www.probablefuture.com/

Bob Predicts End Of World in 2007

UFO Cult Predicts End of the World in July 2007

The Church of the SubGenius has announced that the end of the world will take place on Thursday, July 5, 2007. In preparation for the fulfillment of this doomsday prophecy, the Church is requesting that all of its members participate in a festival with rock concerts and blasphemous rituals taking place in upstate New York, during the final weekend before the arrival of the apocalypse.

[ClickPress, Wed Jan 03 2007] The Church of the SubGenius has announced that the end of the world will take place on Thursday, July 5, 2007. In preparation for the fulfillment of this doomsday prophecy, the Church is requesting that all of its members participate in a festival with rock concerts and blasphemous rituals taking place in upstate New York, during the final weekend before the arrival of the apocalypse.

The Church of the SubGenius is a popular organization often seen as a "parody" of religious cults, including Scientology, the Raelians, the Unification Church, and racist hate groups such as Christian Identity. The organization is widely seen as a satire that mocks organized religion, or as the church describes itself, "a cynisacreligion."

Since its inception in 1953, Church founder J.R. "Bob" Dobbs has predicted that a fleet of flying saucers will arrive at the beginning of July to destroy the worldwide Conspiracy against the Church of the SubGenius, while all ordained SubGenius ministers will be rescued by escape vessels piloted by the Alien Sex Goddesses, also known as the Xists.

The Church is inviting all of its members worldwide to gather together for the final hours in Sherman, New York from Thursday, June 28 to Thursday, July 5, at a clothing-optional outdoor campground called Brushwood Folklore Center. The first gathering at this compound took place in 1996, and the event has increased in size and participants each following year. 1998 was designated the first true "X-Day," and each successive year has added one to the total. This year's celebration in 2007 is X-Day 10, or X-Day X.

The Church has been engaged in a massive recruitment campaign to increase the numbers of its membership before the arrival of the Xists. According to Church records, the organization currently has approximately 100,000 members worldwide. SubGenius recruitment has been especially dedicated among the ranks of people who refuse to conform to the norms of society, including disbelievers, blasphemers, pranksters, rebels, hackers, pornographers, geeks, and outcasts.

The Church is seeking performers and producers from the adult entertainment industry in particular, because sexual freedom has been an important part of Church doctrine from the start. X-Day will be a celebration of free expression, performance art, rock and roll, pornography, and adult entertainment; and certain parts of the event will be restricted to adults only. Only ordained ministers of the Church of the SubGenius are allowed at the event, but the Church is accepting memberships at its standard rate of $30 up until the final hours of July 4.

The Church of the SubGenius has been no stranger to controversy since its foundation, and the upcoming X-Day celebration promises to be no different. In the late 1980s, members of the Church were accused of spreading a virus in Macintosh computers known as the "Peace Virus." Numerous articles have been written on the Church in such noteworthy publications as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wired Online, Boston Globe, U.S. News and World Report; and broadcast reports have been produced by CNN and NPR. In April 1999, officials of the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts shut down an official SubGenius Devival gathering in the belief that the Church was affiliated with the Trenchcoat Mafia (the organization blamed for the Columbine high school shootings), though authorities later realized the association was mistaken. In its January 1, 2000 issue, a Time magazine poll declared J.R. "Bob" Dobbs the biggest fraud of the 20th century.

The Church received additional media attention in 2006 when one of its high-ranking members, known in SubGenius circles as Reverend Mary Magdalen, became involved in a legal battle for custody of her son due to her membership in the Church. This case has been covered in such popular online sites as Boing Boing, Fark, and Wikinews (Wikipedia's news reporting service). Reverend Magdalen is being represented by the law firm of Lipsitz Green Fahringer Roll Salisbury & Cambria, LLP.

Detailed information about X-Day can be found on the World Wide Web at the X-Day Web site:

Ten Steps To Psychic Power

Many people think "I'd like to try and develop ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) abilities". Some believe they have always had some but never really developed them. Others think it's all nonsense but it could be nice to try. Here I'd like to present you a list of 10 ways that you could use to help you in your quest of developing ESP, healing or psychic abilities.

Desire - The desire to develop your abilities in any field of life is a requirement. Desire is what fuels the engine, ignites the spark and propels you forward towards your goals. Desires can develop either as result of great interest in something or as a result of a great need. Either way is good. Try to remember when you had a long lasting desire for something earlier in your life. See if you have a similar one for developing your ESP, psychic or healing abilities now.

Belief - Belief is another important aspect, especially in this field. But this time you not only need to believe that you're capable of achieving your goal but you have first to believe that this goal is something that can be achieved at all. If you are a skeptic in all things related to parapsychology, you won't believe, and as such you probably also won't have a long lasting desire as well. And so you are destined to fail.

Talk to experienced people - if belief is your main concern or if you just don't know how to start, try and find people who are already on this path. Actually, the number of people who do healing and psychic work is quite large, even more people have been studying this and applying in their life, but are not public about it. The majority of people are still very concervative on these topics, so the 'able' people do not usually showcase their abilities to everyone. But if you dig deeper in your list of friends, maybe you could find someone who studied something, or went to a psychic. You just have to talk them, make them feel free to talk about it with you. Finding the right people to lead you on this path can prove difficult but it is important and encouraging.

Find a teacher - after you talk to people, some will tell you of a good teacher or an organisation that gives workshops in your field of interest. Try to understand which are good, contact them and ask to enroll on a forthcoming course. Or maybe a more private teaching is possible, which is even better. Finding one great teacher is a great way to start and this will also open you to more like-minded people.
Meditate - meditation is a skill by itself and it also has many different schools and techniques. Try to find some information about meditation and find a style that suits you. You don't have to mediate a lot to get the feeling of it and to start getting the benefits. The benefits of meditation are better control over your thoughts, calmness and overall awareness.

Read books - Like in any thing you want to learn in life, reading books is one of the best and cheapest sources of knowledge. Get references for good books from your teachers and friends. Go to amazon and read the reviews. Go to blogs and read reviews. See some reviews on my site, for example.

Search the internet - the internet is full of information on ESP, healing and psychic abilites. Not all sites are good and serious, though. Take the time to surf and read on the net. Subscribe to blogs.

Exercise alone - Nothing can be developed until you exercise. That's true for sports, for maths and for ESP. Find good exercises and invest the time. Mind power is the same as the physical power, it needs exercises to increase your abilities. See this site for many exercises which I present to get you started.

Exercise in small groups - exercising alone is good but doing exercises in a group settings is much much better. Find some friends who are also interesting like you and are on a similar level and exercise together. Many energy exercises are better done in pairs. Read about my experience in a group setting.

Experience it - if your desire is to learn healing or psychic abilities, go to an experienced healer next time you have a problem, especially one that the regular doctors don't know to heal (like most of them, actually). Experiencing healing, if successful, can take you a long way in boosting both your belief and your desire. A reading from a good psychic can also make you a believer.

Vedic Mantras Cure Disease

Now look forward to new age healing through mantras! Sanskrit scholars of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University have initiated a research project, said to be the first of its kind, to treat various diseases through Vedic chants.

A state-of-the-art astrological lab costing Rs.8 million ($1.5 million) will be set up in the university premises. The city-based National Ayurveda Institute is also participating in the research.

The lab would involve modern scientific gadgets and instruments like high-capacity binoculars, telescope, cameras etc to enable scholars to observe the planetary and other solar activities.

Different teams would be constituted on the basis of the ancient Indian science of Ayurveda, the Vedas and astrology to diagnose about 100 general and incurable diseases and their treatment.

In a two-year period, the scholars would analyse and study the impact of rays of various planets and other celestial bodies through various perspectives, bringing into practice traditional Indian treatment and therapies mentioned in Vedic literature.

Experts claim that solar therapy, radiotherapy and several other present-day treatments are actually based on Ayurveda. They also said that if the research proves to be successful, the treatment would be cheaper.

'If the project is successful then people would certainly get a better and cheaper treatment facility without any side-effects', said Ramdev Sharma, an Ayurvedic doctor.

'The project is in a preliminary stage and will only take off in the next couple of months. We expect good results', Vinod Shastri of the University of Rajasthan, told IANS.

'Each letter of Vedic mantra has immense power. After knowing the symptoms, diseases can be treated effectively through a combination herbs and mantras,' said Shastri, who is also an eminent astrologer.

The Philadelphia Experiment

Today we're going to pull a giant switch on the wall and activate powerful generators, which will create a mysterious force field around us and cause us all to disappear. For we're going to discuss the perennially silly "Philadelphia Experiment."

The story goes that in October of 1943, at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, an experiment was conducted aboard a US Navy Cannon-class destroyer escort called the USS Eldridge, number DE-173. The experiment involved the creation of a force field which rendered the ship invisible both to the eye and to radar. The experiment was witnessed by hundreds, possibly thousands, of sailors both ashore and on other ships nearby. Unfortunately, there were severe side effects to the crew on board ship. Some were found materialized inside the metal of the ship, others were never seen again, and still others were driven insane or plagued for years by mysterious cases of phasing in and out of existence. In typical Navy fashion, everything has been denied.

None of the above ever actually happened. What follows, did actually happen.

The secret of the mysterious experiment and its terrible aftermath was kept for 12 years, until one day when Morris Jessup, the author of a book about UFO's, was unexpectedly summoned to the US Navy's Office of Naval Research. The ONR had received, in the mail, a copy of Jessup's UFO book, filled with handwritten annotations. The notes were all in the same handwriting, but in three characters, in three colors of ink. The notes revealed all the details of the Philadelphia Experiment, and the ONR wanted to know if Jessup knew anything about who might have written these notes and sent the book to them.

Jessup recognized the crazy handwriting immediately. He had received a series of letters from a man calling himself Carlos Allende, who claimed to have witnessed the experiment from aboard a merchant marine ship nearby, the SS Andrew Furuseth. Jessup had dismissed Allende as a crackpot — among Allende's claims was that Albert Einstein had personally spent several weeks mentoring him on subjects such as invisibility and faster-than-light travel. Several copies of the annotated book were produced, and the rest is history: The Philadelphia Experiment story became part of the fabric of pop culture.

Robert Goerman, a researcher of the paranormal and a friend of mine, noticed that the return address of Allende's original mailing to the ONR came from his own home town, New Kensington, Pennsylvania. He had spent some time putting together the history of the Philadelphia Experiment story and in 1979, found to his great surprise that Carlos Allende, whose real name was Carl Allen, was the son of a close family friend. Over time, Goerman filled in the blanks and presented the complete case in magazine articles and on television shows such as History's Mysteries, Unsolved Mysteries, and The Unexplained — three show titles which by themselves lend far too much credence to Carl Allen's stories. Carl Allen was something of the dark horse of the family, a creative and imaginative loner, notorious for annotating anything and everything in the house, and sending bizarre writings and claims to everyone in the family for any occasion. Goerman also assembled all of the facts of the USS Eldridge: little things, like the ship was nowhere near Philadelphia when the experiment happened, the ship had detailed corroborated records for the normal duties that it was in fact performing at the time, and that nobody who had ever been a crewman on board the ship knew anything about any experiment. The Eldridge had been launched only two months before the experiment, and you'd think that if it was hosting Albert Einstein and the most amazing experiment in history, somebody would have known about it. Without exception, every single fact that Carl Allen presented as evidence of the Philadelphia Experiment has been easily proven to be a complete fabrication.

And therein lies the problem. The trouble with discussing government conspiracies is that the believers generally refuse to accept the factual evidence, because it becomes part of the conspiracy. It's a bit like having a debate about Creationism: believers simply say "God did it" and it's a matter of faith, not of evidence or fact. If the government is trying to cover something up, every falsified claim becomes evidence for the conspiracy. In summary, there is no amount of evidence that can be compiled that will be accepted by a conspiracy theorist. In the conspiracy theorist's mind, evidence against is actually evidence for.

Among this schizophrenic evidence is the US Navy's reply to the Philadelphia Experiment story, which is available online at http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq21-1.htm. As you might surmise, it simply says that they have no idea what this guy could be talking about, here's where both ships were and what they were doing at the time, and here are the statements from their officers. It's an entertaining report, but predictable.

Interestingly, there are some question marks left standing about the Philadelphia Experiment. As you might expect, two or three veterans of the Eldridge and the USS Engstrom, which was once moored alongside the Eldrige in 1943, have claimed to be a guy whom Allende saw disappear in a bar or who have found themselves transported across dimensions. It should be noted that such claims were made well after the Philadelphia Experiment became a pop-culture phenomenon, and in more than one case it turned out that these guys were not actually veterans at all. A more interesting question comes from the very genesis of the story, when the Navy ONR first summoned Morris Jessup to their office to talk about the strangely annotated book. If there was nothing in those annotations of genuine interest to them, why did they call?

Who knows. Goerman suggested that these ONR officers did this on their own time out of personal intrigue, or that some of the allusions in the annotations were similar to actual Navy research and the ONR was simply being responsible at following every lead. Conspiracy theorists maintain that this proves Allen's annotations must have been true. Whatever the truth, I happen to love that this story has this annoying little footnote that can't be easily explained away. I love a good mystery and I remember a streak of disappointment when Goerman's debunking of the case was laid out before me — like most people I'd done no thorough research of my own and only knew what the average moviegoer knows about the Philadelphia Experiment. Intellectually I know the story is silly, but I still love that little loose end. Carl Allen may have been a prankster, but I thank him for making the century just that little bit more interesting.

Chilli Kills Cancer

Scientists have discovered the key to the ability of spicy foods to kill cancer cells.
They found capsaicin, an ingredient of jalapeno peppers, triggers cancer cell death by attacking mitochondria - the cells' energy-generating boiler rooms.

The research raises the possibility that other cancer drugs could be developed to target mitochondria.

The Nottingham University study features in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications.

The study showed that the family of molecules to which capsaicin belongs, the vanilloids, bind to proteins in the cancer cell mitochondria to trigger apoptosis, or cell death, without harming surrounding healthy cells.

We believe that we have in effect discovered a fundamental 'Achilles heel' for all cancers

Dr Timothy Bates

Capsaicin was tested on cultures of human lung cancer cells and on pancreatic cancers.

Lead researcher Dr Timothy Bates said: "As these compounds attack the very heart of the tumour cells, we believe that we have in effect discovered a fundamental 'Achilles heel' for all cancers.

"The biochemistry of the mitochondria in cancer cells is very different from that in normal cells.

"This is an innate selective vulnerability of cancer cells."

He said a dose of capsaicin that could cause a cancer cell to enter apoptosis, would not have the same effect on a normal cell.

Potential Drugs

The fact that capsaicin and other vanilloids are already commonly found in the diet proves they are safe to eat.

This could make development of a drug containing them a much quicker and cheaper process.

Dr Bates said: "Capsaicin, for example, is already found in treatments for muscle strain and psoriasis - which raises the question of whether an adapted topical treatment could be used to treat certain types of skin cancer.

"It's also possible that cancer patients or those at risk of developing cancer could be advised to eat a diet which is richer in spicy foods to help treat or prevent the disease."

However, Josephine Querido, cancer information officer at Cancer Research UK, said: "This research does not suggest that eating vast quantities of chilli pepper will help prevent or treat cancer.

"The experiments showed that pepper extracts killed cancer cells grown in the laboratory, but these have not yet been tested to see if they are safe and effective in humans."

Cancer Research UK recommends reducing the risk of cancer by eating a healthy, balanced diet, with plenty of vegetables and fruit.

Dr Bates added that the mitochondria in cancer cells could also be targeted by other compounds.

He said the investigation and development of anti-mitochondrial drugs for cancer chemotherapy was likely to be "extremely significant" in the fight against cancer.
