Recently, electric vehicles (EVs) are seen everywhere, from passenger cars to buses to taxis. EVs have the advantage of being eco-friendly and having low maintenance costs, but their owners must remain wary of fatal accidents in case the battery runs out or reaches the end of its life. Therefore, precise capacity and lifespan predictions for the lithium-ion batteries—commonly used in EVs—are vital.

The signature of taste: New technology for the food and beverage industry
Blending whiskies from different casks is an art in itself. Whisky blenders are luminaries of their guild. Just as painters mix colors to capture mood on canvas, the experts in distilleries combine flavors to create "liquid gold." They follow their intuition, which is based on experience and a keen sense of taste and smell.

A novel process to capture and convert CO2 from air
As CO2 emissions continue to grow, the world is becoming ever more reliant on the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to achieve urgent climate targets. Direct air capture (DAC) is a promising novel technology for the extraction of carbon dioxide from ambient air via liquid or solid sorbents. The CO2 provided by this process can be either stored in geological formations or used as feedstock for the production of carbon-neutral fuels and energy carriers. For his PhD-research, Francesco Sabatino designed and optimized processes for the production of synthetic natural gas from carbon dioxide captured from air and renewable hydrogen.

Autonomous Mayflower reaches American shores—in Canada
A crewless robotic boat that had tried to retrace the 1620 sea voyage of the Mayflower has finally reached the shores of North America—this time in Canada instead of the Massachusetts coast where its namesake landed more than 400 years ago.
